Guy Thomas gone

Rumors on RSS that Guy Thomas quit the team today. Sean Callahan said he is unable to confirm but he doesn’t expect him back next year. 

Anyone else hear anything about this?

Yeah @BIG ERN mentioned something about another spot opening up for next year after today. Didn't know it was Guy Thomas though. If you aren't buying in, it is best to move on and give the guy who is all in a shot. I wish him all the best in the future.

Another of Riley’s 2017 recruits gone.  It’s unfortunate as he was highly rated and had an impressive offer list.  C’est la vie

 
He's a guy i thought would do well in an aggressive 3-4 since he was supposed to be a good pass rusher. Don't know if i ever saw him play a down.

 
Happens all the time. 

I still wish Moss wouldn’t have done his dumb stuff. At least he got to play.

Sad to see G Thomas go but do we really miss a guy who never actually played a down?

Is his fighting any injuries or just realized that he is low on the depth chart? I hate to see kids leave. While it is nice to open up a scholarship, I think there is value to having people on the team that work hard even though they know they will rarely if ever play.

It's always disappointing to see a kid come in and not reach the success that was envisioned when he signed.  However, to the bolded, I think the value in that is minuscule to the value in bringing in a new kid who has a better chance at seeing the field than the one who is leaving.  Is that guaranteed?  No.  But, having a kid on taking up a spot that isn't going to see the field, prevents the staff from having the chance of that happening.

I did a study (sorry, won't do it again) back when we had a lot of dead weight on the roster and very few left even though they weren't going to see the field.  I compared that to (I think) Alabama that has lots of kids leave because, after a year or two, they know they aren't going to see the field......and then had full recruiting classes.

The number of kids going through Alabama that the staff has the chance to develop and see success with was significant compared to the number of kids that were coming through Nebraska.  

To a certain extent, it's a numbers game.  More kids going through the program, the better chance to find those special players.
