Guys to watch

Four-Star Recruit
Who are the top 5 players on your watch list for spring ball and why?

Mine:

Kyler Reed - Just heard Mike'l Severe predict him as a future all-american at TE on the radio. Add in the rumors about him switching to LB and i think it will be interesting to see what happens with this guy. He clearly has all the skills, so what are they going to do with them? Now that talks about the QB controversy have cooled, other guys will be interesting to watch.

Anthony Blue - Coming off of an ACL injury I think it will be very interesting how he does this spring. Something that makes it more interesting is the number of incoming freshman we have at his position. Will this motivate him? I have heard they are moving Eric Hagg to Safety, so the same guys that predicted Kyler Reed's future talked about how that must mean Blue is going to be ready to go. I have to agree with that, but I think how this guy does will be very important to the impact incoming freshman make and the competition at the position with Gomes coming in. I hope he is a stud.

Baker Steinkuhler - Everyone wants to know if he is going to live up to the hype. I want to know who will be starting opposite Suh next year. Will it be this guy? If not, then what should we expect from him in the future? I am excited to hear where he stands after spring ball.

Phillip Dillard - Everyone talks about the new guys coming in at LB. i have heard some say they don't think Dillard will start. That is crazy to me, so i am curious to see how Dillard makes the defense his own. I would love to see him have an awesome spring and exhibit some leadership. Suh will be the leader on D, but Dillard will need to have a voice as well as a senior.

Roy Helu Jr. - I am counting on the RBs to be responsible for a lot of yards next year, and this guy has the highest expectations. I want to know he does the spring and if he comes out the clear #1 back. I don't think he will, but I want to hear that he is absolutely tearing it up since I feel like we will rely heavily on the running game next year, especially early in the season.

Honorable mention: Alonzo Whaley, Josh Williams, Cameron Meredith, Kody Spano

I would have to say i'm looking forward to the linebacker battle more than anything... competition breeds success... may not be a more true saying in college sports... take a look at the baseball team if you need any examples... mort/asche and neer/burleson.

Chris Williams- I want to see how he comes off of his knee injury this spring. I have heard great things about him and I think if he is healthy enough he can make a push and make a huge impression on the coaches this spring. I am also looking forward to see how hard he can hit people :bonez

Baker Steinkuhler- He was once number 8 overall in the nation so he obviously has some skills. I know he played o-line in high school and thats where he got most of his praise but he can be a work-horse for the d-line next year if he has a strong spring IMO. The d-line next year can be very very good next year with Stienkuhler.

Barry Turner- There was a lot of talk about him this offseason mostly because of his pillow incident but I think that he will have a very strong spring and could potentially have the year this year that Suh had last year. Now that his leg is all healed up he is destined to have a strong spring.

Zac Lee- Even though all the talk has been about Witt leaving and Green pushing him for the starting role, I think that Lee will be a guy to look out for. I think coming in to spring he has the slight lead over Green and Spano and I believe that he can seal the lead and be the front-runner to start if he has a strong spring. If he has a poor spring though, then he might just open the door for Green starting for all four years.

Kyler Reed- I still don't know where the coaches will put him but he is so versitile he can go just about anywhere. He has all the skills to be great but he needs to find a spot. He used to play WR in high-school and there is a need for WR's so I wonder if he gets tested out there during the spring. I am sure we will be hearing a lot more from him over the spring so that is why I will put him in as one of fiver guys to watch out for this spring :bonez

Q- I want to see if he can build off his very impressive Gator Bowl performance. We will really need him to, as Helu can not carry the whole load.

Zac Lee- Of course

Sean Fisher- I love his height and speed at LB

Mason Wald- everyone raved about his hitting ability, and how underated he was out of high school

Ben Cotton- he is supposed to be the real deal

And any of the recievers, as I'm nervous about losing Swift and Peterson. Holt really need to be the man for us this year.

And of course Mr. Baker Stienkuhlar, like everyone else

Just to let some of you guys know, players like Burkhead and Chris Williams aren't part of the Spring practice. They are still in High School. The only guys here from the previous recruiting class are Dejon Gomes and Cody Green.

1. All of the WR's. This is by far my biggest concern, I hate to just say one whole position, but I can't narrow it down to just one because I will be watching all of the WR's to see who steps up.

2. Rickey Thenarse- I wanna see if he can get the defense down mentally because clearly he is ahead of O'Hanlon athletically.

3. Cody Green- I don't expect him to start, but I just wanna see the guy play.

4. Baker Steinkuhler- A lot of hype and a lot still unknown

5. Anthony Blue- I was expecting big things before the ACL.

Lee and Spano- obviously

Compton and Stienkuhler are the 2 guys i would like to see step up and have a solid run at making this D scary for awhile. :restore

Basically I'm looking forward to all the kids who redshirted last year. Other than a couple, we really haven't heard much from the reshirts since they signed their LOI.

They've grown both physically and mentally last year, now it's time to let it all hang out. Deep talented rosters with players fighting every practice to keep their spot, that's what this team needs.
