I hear that glenn and auston said that Harrison has matured as a person. Cody Glenn said that "he throws harder than anyone I have ever seen" they also commented about his 7on7 drills this summer where he is taking more of a leadership role. They said he is like a new harrison.

Music to my ears. Hopefully he will be the next NU quarterback phenom. (perhaps only the 2nd or 3rd with any hope to play QB in the NFL) I'm crossing my fingers that NU jumps out to a massive lead against Louisiana Tech and Harrison gets to play most of the second half. We need to give that guy more snaps and field time. It would make me feel much better about our QB position if he proves that he could fill in for Taylor. I'm in Harrison's corner- he's a really good guy.

I have to agree with him needing more playing time. I hope the kid is good but I haven't seen enough of him yet to give me a warm fuzzy about the QB situation next year. What I did see wasn't all that impressive. Same with Marlon Lucky. I was more impressed with Cody Glenn than anything. Hopefully Taylor and the offense can put up enough points to allow Beck some good playing time and experience.

I think BC knows that he will need a QB with experience next year so I predict some significant playing tim for the back ups this year.

This is good news for me to hear because I've heard that he doesn't care and that he's not putting his all into it.

I concur. I just hope that we can dominate some teams in the first half so that Harrison can use the second half to hone his skills. BC has got to give him some significant playing time.

I've always heard Beck referenced as a gunslinger in the Brett Favre mold with the arm and take-chances mentality. Hopefully he'll get the chance to hone those skills this year giving Taylor a breather.

I am hoping that BC has enough faith in him to get him early. I don't want to see just mop up work. He needs game on the line type of play. I think he has the talent but knew his roll. With the injury he understood his playing time was nill. He never once complained about burning the red shirt. Give the kid the time he needs. He is following what I think is a NFL prospect. Been a long time since that has happened here. We need to get used to it hopefully.

Just finished reading an article talking about Beck. The team noted some considerable differences in Beck. For starters, he dropped 20lbs. The other being he's more focused and took a stronger leadership role during practices/7 on 7 drills.

Husker backup quarterback Harrison Beck began preseason camp Thursday with one noticeable change and another that was noted by teammates.

For one, the 6-foot-2 Beck has dropped about 20 pounds since spring, when he was listed at 215 pounds.

What’s more, the sophomore seems more serious about his leadership role as a quarterback, said sophomore I-back Cody Glenn.

“Harrison, he’s the kind of guy who’s got all of the physical tools,” Glenn said. “He can throw it a mile, he can throw it harder than anybody else I’ve seen in my life. But he has to mature a little more. You saw it a lot during 7-on-7 stuff this past summer, how he’d come in and take control and try to be more of a leader, as opposed to last year, where he kind of goofed off and jacked around. This year, it’s like a totally different Harrison.”

Perhaps most important, Beck appeared pain-free as he cut loose on throws during the early stages of practice — the part media can watch. He suffered a shoulder injury in the spring and was bothered into the summer.

One thing hasn’t changed since spring: Beck declined interview requests Thursday.

“He’s worked really hard in the summer,” said offensive coordinator Jay Norvell. “I think he’s moving better. He’s smoother. I think he’s in much better condition.”

Sounds like this kid is really starting to come into his own now. :thumbs

He lost 20 pounds? Huh?? Sorry, but he needs to put that weight back on. If he's worried about mobility, he can do footspeed drills and the like without losing that much weight.

Maybe that was just fat. Hopefully he does put some back on in the form of Big Red Muscle.

i had heard from someone that had seen him on campus time to time that it wasnt "good weight" said it looked like a beer belly. I am assuming that he jacked around a lot in high school sports, where you can get away with that... and still be a stud, but college ball takes more dedication.

I honestly think it was the lack of competition for beck, he thought he was locked in as number two.... IMO, he started seeing that we were looking into a certain juco prospect to come in and add depth to this years roster and he kicked it in gear. Now Witt is going to be here for the spring, i think these events made something click in harrison. I still like the kid, has a good personality and a good arm, i cant wait to see him in action.

His maturity is great news. But is he completing passes?

On a side note though. I don't think Harrison will see any action in our first three games. If we are going to beat USC in LA we will need Taylor playing like a seasoned veteran. The backups will see plenty of action, especially our running backs and receivers, but at QB Zac needs every snap before we head into LA.

Normally we would see Harrison get plenty of action. But USC is a special game. If we win in LA it could set the tone for championship run.
