Has anyone participated in a clinical drug trial?

I am newly diagnosed narcoleptic and I have been researching my treatment options. I am waiting to hear if one that I prefer is going to be covered by my insurance so I have been looking into other options. One is a drug that will soon be in trial. Does anyone have any horror stories? I guess the down side is that it is a 12 week trial and if the drug works for me, what happens after the 12 weeks? Back to square one? If I ended up thinking the drug worked and found out that I received the placebo, then I guess I need a different kind of doctor.

That's a big decision. You should sleep on it.

/ lol. Sorry for the lame attempt at narcolepsy humor. I don't have any horror story to tell. But I believe by the time a drug is in trials they've already demonstrated that it's not likely to be harmful. It's just a matter of whether it is as effective as the drug maker thinks it will be, and like you said, whether or not you actually get a dosage or a sugar pill. I'd go for it on something like narcolepsy. I would be less likely to roll the dice for a cancer drug or heart medication. Either way, I hope you find a cure.

I got a free colonoscopy while doing a study for an Osteo Arthritis drug. They paid me $1000 to allow them to do 3 endoscopys and after I once mentioned blood coming from somewhere it never had before, they offered the colon thing. I was 40 so about time to get one anyway, and lost my insurance a few months before.
