Hiring Fred Hoiberg is great for Nebraska, NBA great Dwyane Wade said Friday.

But it’s even better for him.

“Now I get to go up there and see a familiar face,” Wade said with a smile.

Wade and the Miami Heat were in the Twin Cities for a Friday night matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Wade is on a farewell tour with plans to retire at the end of this season, his 16th in the league.

With the Heat fighting for a playoff spot as the regular season ends Wednesday, Wade is at the epicenter of the NBA spotlight this weekend. He’s on the cover of Sports Illustrated, was the subject of a long-form feature on ESPN Friday morning and is checking off the final stops of his NBA career.

For one season, the 13-time All-Star and 2006 NBA Finals MVP played in his hometown of Chicago for Hoiberg with the Bulls. During 2016-17, Wade led the Bulls to a 41-41 regular-season record with a loaded roster that included Rajon Rondo, Robin Lopez and Jimmy Butler.
