Yes, I agree. Beck's offense might be the best thing we have going right now. The defense is killing us and it's mainly because the front 7 is just too slow to deal with spread offenses and mobile qb's not so much about coaching IMO.
It has everything to do with coaching.....who do you think evaluated these guys and offered them scholarship to play here? If not the coaches, who is to blame for the lack of athleticism on our defense?
I agree with you in terms of evaluation, but Bo's defenses looked pretty damn good with BC's recruits. Obviously evaluation and recruiting is a big part of coaching at the collegiate level, but in terms of scheme I've seen that it works.
It does work with other peoples recruits (McBrides last recruits in 2003, Stoops, Saban, and Callahan's) but if he can't get the horses here, it doesn't matter how good is schemes are (still debatable) he won't win against anyone with a heartbeat. In other words his recruiting failures are still coaching failures as recruiting is at least 50%-60% of what makes you successful at the college level. And if he can't recruit, then we will need to move on sooner rather than later if we ever want to become relevant again.

just need to teach discipline and more of it, then some more of it, and yet again more. Also need some fire from the coaches that isnt a$$ chewing, yet encouraging information on how to get better. JP as D cord coached better when Bo was out, or as a leader seemed to lead better. I want a coach who runs up and down the field with joy jumping and chest bumping his players. Not only who seems to chew them out when they make a mistake.

Yes, he has done just a hell of a job recruiting an impregnable offensive line. You saw what happened Saturday night. You could have timed how much time Taylor had to throw with a sun dial.
Coaches do not recruit to their particular positions. They are assigned regions throughout the country. It is quite possible actually that Barney did not recruit one single player he is coaching. Not likely, but possible.
This is true, but like you said, not very likely. I'm not going to even pretend to know who Barney Cotton has or has not recruited, but I will make the assumption that he does have a say in which olinemen are recruited.

Bo used to do stuff like that. I'm tellin ya, the public downtalk from Perlman (becuase I'm sure some rich prissy booster somewhere didnt like the way it looked) ruined Bo. The program lost an edge, not on that night in College Station, but the next morning. People just ranted and raved about Bo, but refused to study the situation. I too want the "old" Bo back. Now he walks the sideline trying to be the stoic person that he simply is not. Sure Muschamp says it worked for him to calm, but he's not Bo Pelini. We lost that edge that night, and our record and results since prove it. Was it a tissy fit? Yes. But it was well justified in my opinion, and the Martinez incedent was just a byproduct of overflowing emotions.
