Head of Husker Recruiting Candidates

I posted this on another site, but I would love to see Roger Craig. Nothing like having a guy with three Super Bowl rings, four Pro Bowls, knows California, is in marketing & loves the Huskers, to be the face of your recruiting. Pretty sure when he walks into any recruits house they will listen.
Rodger is too busy running marathons now.
Pretty sure a check starting with a 1 or 2 proceeded by 6 zero's could free up his calander. I know money is not really a problem for him, but a big check & working with a Program that he loves could go a long way into bring him in.
$ 0000002 ? ;)
Great catch.

To be honest. I don't even know if this person needs to be from the Husker family. Bringing on a guy like Jon Gruden would do wonders. There are so many options & if the program is willing to really open up its check book the sky is the limit. You can offer a guy like Jon Gruden a $1MM base salary, $20M bonus for each 5 star player & $15M for each 4 star player. Then on top of that give a $500M bonus for a top 5 class & $250M for a top 10. They could live anywhere & still be able to perform this job. You put a solid staff behind him & really all he has to do is make about 30 trips to recruits houses, a few trips to Lincoln & spend a couple of hours a day on the phone talking & texting recruits. The staff of scouts can find the players, office people can setup the meetings & travel. There really is no limit on what can be done under this new recruiting program.
yea thats alot of money! if you paid somebody that much money and they had the recruiting class Bama had this year the university would be paying them upwards of $750 million for one recruiting class! that is completely out of the question in my mind. Nu's athletic department could not afford something like that
FYI MM=Million & M=Thousands. Sorry I was in work mode & that is the abreviations used in finance.
lol its all good, I thought maybe you had gone off the deep end for a bit

Alabama took the guy we needed to hire in Kevin Steele.

Jay Norvell would be a great hire but I don't think he'd want to not be a coach.

Tim Albin would be very solid.

Ron Zook would be good.

Joe Rudolph would be great.

Jim Tressel would be a home run.

Another option is to move Els to Head recruiter and hire another linebacker coach.

Another name that is likely a no go but I'll throw it out anyways is our old pal Marvin Sanders.
The idea of moving Els to Head recruiter is an interesting thought in that you could bring in Doug Coleman as a LB coach. Coleman has good recruiting ties on the East Coast, which should be more open to us with the B1G expansion. Or maybe Chris Spielman, he would have some pull in Ohio.

Bill Callahan.

He'd be better at that than coaching, I would imagine. I'd be all for it.

He'd be great in that role. (Although I suspect you're joking. Probably.) But I don't think we'd pay him near as much coin he gets as an NFL assistant.

Plus, Husker fans would string Bo up by the thumbs if he hired Cally. I can only imagine the reaction.

what indication do you have that Chris spielman would want to coach football at Nebraska

I may be off the deep end, but not far enough to think NU could afford to pay almost a billion dollars to one guy. I was thinking at most it would be around $2 Million & still he would need to sign 25 5 star players & have the top class.

I wouldn't mind hiring Grant Winstrom for a recruiting coordinator. He loves the sport, football and is a star for all the kids that play that position. I know he doesn't have experience, but I am sure he could be that extra push that can help recruit our defense.

Lots of you guys are talking about the person who gets hired coaching. I don't believe he/she will have any coaching responsibilities. They will be hired to recruit and that's all from my understanding.

I would hire someone like Joe Moglia, an awesome person and loves this program.

Moglia would CRUSH it

He knows how to evaluate, prioritize, recruit and put effcient and effective proccesses into place

NU needs something different

A guy with an amazing business background who can bring the best of the private sector expertise to bear AND he knows the game, has the respect of coaching staff etc

He would be a home run

Absolutely none. I just think he knows his football.

As far as recruiting jobs I think Jeff Simms would be a good choice although I doubt it happens. The Steele hire by Alabama was tops. He would of been my first pick. I like the Zook idea.

A bot of a tangent. Outside of this hire, don't forget that in every recruiting cycle we have lost some good momentum in recruiting due to poor play and blowouts. If we can play smarter I believe we will win out on a couple of better recruits every cycle. Right now we are losing battles to teams like UCLA.
