Helu touches

Five-Star Recruit
Anybody know how many plays Roy Helu was in on. Did not seem like it was too many. I am hoping for a Burkhead-helu tandem in the backfield with Martinez.

I don't know how many he got, but my overall impression was that he was not on the field very much.

I was surprised to to see Jones and Okafor get quite a bit of carries/pt.

Helu had 5 carries which was the same as Burkhead and one more then Tray. He didn't have as good of a game as Burkhead but he looked good.

I'm not too worried about touches. I think tonight Nebraska was more focused on being balanced and easing Martinez into the game plan.

Plus, our first two drives amounted to a total of 6-7 plays. When we start playing more competent defenses, they will get more touches.

I like the depth we have at running back, I think we played very vanilla on both sides of the ball, and obviously with our running game of how many touches. We don't want Helu banged up too early, and why waste carries for him and Rex in the WKU game, it just saves them for bigger games later in the season. I expect Robinson to get more carries though because he is more of a bruiser type back. I was impressed with the explosiveness of our running backs out of the backfield in the 2nd half though.

Robinson was the only one I wasn't overly impressed with. His first carry of the game was a loss, and he finished with 4 attempts for 7 yards. His explosiveness wasn't quite as good as I expected it to be.

But, collectively, they all played very well.

Good point on Robinson. I just meant he is built for more of a bruiser back, but not necessarily had a good game. I think on his first carry someone missed an assignment up-front, at least that's what it looked like, I think it was a run to the right side.

Who were the backs that played in the 2nd half? Okafor? Mendoza? I think I'm missing someone else...

Austin Jones scored a TD.

it sucks because i want DR to be a big success in the role he is designed to play... i guess in a way he's been kinda like the running back version of niles paul in a way... just needs to let it go and trust himself alittle bit without getting carried away.......

Thanks, Enhance. It really isn't a lot of offensive snaps especially for a blowout cupcake game like this one. I think we usually get more than that. The RB rotation will be one to watch this year, though. It'll be interesting to see how many touches Helu gets going forward. However, unlike last year, it doesn't look like we are looking at him as a feature back.

Also, in today's game, it's tough to hit that 65-75 plus play range with the 40 second clock. We're now given 45 extra seconds to get the play together and execute it, thus relieving the pressure to just keep pounding away.

We should also consider our first two drives resulting in a total of 6-7 plays.

RB rotation will be very interesting, for sure.
