The only reason they called holding in the first place is because the side judge got spooked by the crowd. It was a WAC crew, and they were abyssimal. Like, 05 Alamo bowl (also a WAC crew) bad. The play where fresno "recovered" Taylor's fumble out of bounds, 3 yards past the FD marker, and they gave us a 4th and 1 was ridiculous.

That was actually the right call. If the ball goes OB on a fumble (the OB player recovering it = going OB), the ball goes back to the spot of the fumble. It's to prevent guys from fumbling to advance the ball.

Ok, then we get the ball past the FD marker anyway. Taylor was past the FD marker when he fumbled.

I watched the head ref the entire play that Crick got held on and all he was focused on was Carr, almost in the way a guy checks out a hot chick. The one they called on Ankrah was more in his line of sight because it was closer to Carr, who he was checking out again. It almost went uncalled until the stadium started yelling at him.

Yeah, the spot was about right, but to even call it a fumble recovery was ridiculous. I could clearly see more than half his body was out-of-bounds while he gained possession of the ball. I was going to blow a blood vessel if that wasn't reversed.

And folks, this is why schools negotiate the officiating crews when scheduling home/home series--it helps negate homefield advantage.

On a related note--do we have a Pac-12 crew or a Big 10 crew for the Washington game? If it's the former, get ready for a whole new round of non-calls...

As long as its not a (future unemployed) Big 12 crew I'm happy

The crowd went absolutely ballistic when Fresno was down towards the NU 15-ish yard line, Crick broke through the line and was heading after Carr, and the O Lineman had him by the neck from behind. The Referee had a great view of the holding, but didn't call it. Crick just threw his arms up in the air and the whole crowd was booing.

There was another VERY blatant holding call later on, that they actually called, but the flag was literally stuck in the Ref's pocket. We were laughing because it took him a while to dig it out.

Wondered about this, could hear on the tv the stadium was CRAZY pissed that something was going on. Assumed it was a holding but never saw anything about it on the screen, at least not while I was paying attention.

There's some form of holding on almost every single play. It's usually only the obvious ones that get nicked.

That said, these refs did not do a very good job last Saturday. The no-holding call on Crick was abysmal, especially when you consider the line judge and the head referee were very close to this action.

Indeed now that games are replayed ad nauseum upper channels like ESPNU and BTN, you can can pick them out all the time.

For all the talk about how dead the crowd is/was/has been, on that play in particular you couldn't hear a jet fly over. It reminded me of the days when Suh was knocking off heads and the stadium resounded to SUHHHH!!!!, only this time it was boos, and louder.
