How about them Blackshirts?

How's about Cooper? The guy still continues to do his Stafford tackling impersonations.
Seriously?
Yes, I'm serious. Cooper is a horrible tackler. Takes poor angles and frequently gets ran by.
I feel like Cooper has been pretty good all year. Leads the team in tackles and consistently plays his run responsibility correctly.
You may be right. Like a lot things in football, a few bads seem to oversee a lot of goods. I just see too many times him getting run right by with lazy attempts at making open field tackles.

I think early in the year he was one if the guys Bo said were trying to do too much making up for others mistakes. As the LB improve I think Cooper will have less and less of those moments.

I also feel like he takes a lot of poor angles. I wouldn't have guessed that he leads the team in tackles but he's also had by far the most opportunities. The next five guys on the list - Santos, HJax, Gregory, Gerry and Banderas - are all rotating in so have probably only played about half the snaps Cooper has (Gregory might be a little more than half). And basically everyone else on the defense is rotating out except the corners who don't get as many chances.

Bo has done more coaching on the sideline than I can remember him doing in the past few. Really encouraging to see us get pressure with our front four and play well in coverage.

I don't care that it was Purdue, we gave up 200 rushing yards to South Dakota State. Now we hold a team on the road to 32 yards rushing, and 1.3 yards a carry. Obviously this defense is making progress, I know it won't be an elite defense and no one should think it will. But they are getting better, and with all the young guys on the defense getting better just wait for how dominating they can be in the next year or two.

They had a fresh QB whom we had no film on. We were able to get stops, TO's and sacks. The guys communicated, were lined up properly and I didn't see any blown assignments. We actually looked good. Better than we did against anyone else we have played to date. No doubt we are improving. 3 weeks until NW. We can improve a lot in this time.

I really didn't realize this until now, but did they even show our DC? I don't even think the announcers even said his name once.

Anyway, the Defense looked like they were ready on every snap. No confusion at all. That there is a huge improvement. (I know that in person you can see much differently, but I am hoping this is not the case).

Also we had to offsides or substitution penalties which is a huge plus for our D.

Well, we shut down a garbage offense that was a home dog with a green Frosh QB making his first start ever. Hmmm... Color me...

Still impressed.

Still a great showing from the D today. Loved the intensity they brought, how they remained strong until the end of a the game (FINALLY, A COMPLETE GAME!!), and even the attitude SJB brought by laying that go the **** out.

What a garbage rule. Players getting ejected on incidental contact on a total judgment call? What a sad, sad rule.

But, my lord, what a bipolar bunch we are. Good God. Go back and read the defensive threads after the first 4 games. Holy cow. Quite the difference eh?

Ready the "Fire Bo/He forgot defense/He's the wrong guy for the job" threads as soon as we give up double digits again. Yikes!

I thought of that earlier tonight...

I wish we didn't have a bye week coming up. I like our momentum on both sides of the ball. That's the only downer after this game.

However, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Spencer Long is just dinged up and will come out the other side of the bye week okay.

This is a thought that has come to my mind after the last couple games. I find it conveniently coincidental that all a sudden, Bo want's to hire another staffer to handle recruiting operations. I think what we were seeing is the Bo has always had a heavy say-if not making the calls completely-on game day. But, if handling all the "other" stuff during prep week, is he really making enough time to prepare himself for such? I've kinda been on the other side of this Papuchis hate I guess because if you cant see that Bo is and always has been making the calls on D, I just dont know what to tell you. I've been thinking that Papuchis should get the chance to handle it himself. Now, whatever Bo and him were going at it for the last couple games, that can be speculated till the cows come home. But I see this recruiting staff position as a way for Bo to be able to get more hands on during the week. Who knows, but I find it rather convenient timing wise.
