How did you end up with your college roommates?

Did anyone else here just get assigned a roommate(s) randomly?

I did...two of them...One from Omaha and one from Elmwood Murdoch

This was freshmen year, years ago, when I had hopes and dreams.

I will share stories later in this thread...

My roommates were friends from my hometown. Lots of stories to tell but I'm not sure the statue of limitations has passed on some things so I will need to refrain.

I graduated high school with the roommates I have now, we've known eachother since elementary school.

Freshman year my room mates were randomly assigned. Lived in a frat so pretty much had to go with what was assigned for that first year. One was a couple years older, he was a great guy who was in the marching band but, he was not, NOT, a clean person. His pants would stand up on their own before he would even consider washing them. Also, he chewed but when he was drunk he wouldn't bother with a spit cup......He would simply pull out his shirt and spit down on his own chest. Much like the movie Step Brothers, he had one rule; don't touch his drum! I sorta kinda got drunked up one night when he had pissed me off so I locked him out of the room and was beating on his drum. He was not a happy camper. After that first year we could sort of pick and choose roommates and rooms but it was on a seniority basis and usually always had to have a new pledge in the room.

MY FRESHMAN YEAR ROOMMATE AND I WERE ASSIGNED BECAUSE WE WERE BOTH ON THE FOOTBALL TEAM. THEN WE BECAME BEST FRIENDS AND WERE ROOMMATES FOR THE REST OF COLLEGE EXCEPT THE ONE YEAR I HAD A SINGLE DORM ROOM

Freshman year, I roomed with other athletes that I had known from high school. The next three years, I roomed with teammates and other guys I met on campus. I've never had a bad roommate experience.

I started with my best friend from high school that I went off to college with.

have had a number of different friend and random roommates, and good and really absolutely awful experiences.

Two roomates my frosh year, one each semester. Both random choices. The guy from Blair was a total nerd, but a very good influence on me. Nice guy. The guy from Omaha was into the party scene, but a huge underhanded douchebag. I didn't really have any problems with either of them, but did not keep in touch after college or anything.

Went to high school with mine. College Park by SCC. That place was a nonstop party. My roomate became the pot king of the whole complex.

For me:

The Omaha Kid: The first night we met we were talking and I asked if he drank/partied...he told me he did. Well, about 5 hours later we are going to bed, lights off...he goes "Hey, I lied to you before, I never did drink or party in high school..." I did not care, not one bit, but he basically never had much fun that year. He got in a fight with the 3rd roommate and got his ear split open and had to get stitches. I never saw him at NU after that year, not once.

The SmallTown kid: He was a year older and was kind of verbally abusive to his girlfriend like, it was really uncomfortable. I asked him early on about getting into bars and/or fake ids and he said "Yeah, I don't know, I am not really into bars or drinking" We tried a few times to get him to move out, he refused. He was kind of a jacka$$. Never really saw him again after that year.

Then I moved into a frat for year...

i don't know how this happened but a pretty close friend of mine from the ages of say 8-12 (though we did cruise very much after that nor did i see him hardly ever) who lived up the street from me randomly called my mom and said her son was going to the same school as me... no idea how that happened or how she new... anyways she said did we want to be roommates.... i was kinda wanting a single but i said okay... anyways get to the dorm and find out he has been there for a week for football training... he is f'ing huge and his sh#t takes up half the room.... we talked a bit for a few weeks.. but i burned and he didn't like that... he was prone to rage... maybe getting his stuff from 'the russian.' i caught him masturbating a whole bunch and in the end we got into a huge fight where he threatened to kill me... i moved out after two months in the "quite dorm" in a large single... never had a roommate after that... was great as i didn't have to worry about a roommate when i brough chicks back.. the guy later transferred to UH and blah blah blah... f#*k that guy

Between my freshman and sophomore years I was out of state for the summer, so when I moved back I needed a place to live. I also had designs on pursuing a girl who I had worked with and exchanged numbers during the end of the previous school year. When I called her to try to hook up, she revealed that she had a boyfriend. However, her boyfriend was looking for a roommate, so I ended up moving into his house. I don't think his girl ever told him how where the referral came from.

That guy ended up getting kicked out of the house a few months later for getting caught masturbating in another girl's room (it was a house of 2 girls and 3 guys).

Ah, college days.

Freshman year took what was assigned to me. My roommate was a decent enough guy and all, but didn't want to be going to school. His dad actually was making him go, all he wanted to do was farm. Did party with him a couple of times during the week. Anyway, he went home every weekend first semester and finally quit sometime after 2nd semester started so I had a single the rest of the year.

Transferred to NWMSU for the start of my sophomore year and took a random incoming freshman as roommate. Nice enough guy and lived with him the whole year, just never became really good friends. He went to Catholic school throughout his upbringing. He found it very odd that I wasn't Catholic. Have never seen either of these to guys since leaving college.

After that lived with a guy from my hometown that was a decent friend with in HS, but became really good friends in college. Was my best man at my wedding. I'm not real good at keeping in touch with people though so haven't seen him in about 3 years.
