How do we defend Va Tech's Taylor?

I have to admit I dont know that much about that team, but I have to say I am skeptical that they have the best D in the country.

Well Georgia Tech had a top 20 D last year (this year top 30 thus far), but they lost 7 starters including their top 4 tacklers and their starting DEs. They do probably have the best DTs in the ACC and have held their first 3 opponents under 20 points each. Still gave up nearly 200 yards rushing to Va Tech.

I think the bigger surprise was that Ga. Tech offense is in good enough shape to score 17 points against what is usually an outstanding Va Tech. D. That was only their 3rd game in making the transition from pro-style O to triple-option and they still had 278 net yards rushing.

More importantly, GT lost defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta (sp?) to Notre Dame.

For those of you who think VTech will not be able to move the ball, you are crazy. They faced a very good ECU team as well as one of the best front fours in the nation in GTech. Who have we moved the ball on??? Two state schools for the blind. Our defense isnt half as good as ECU or GTech, dont get all high and mighty because we held NMST to 7 pts, which was their first game by the way.

If we want to win, we will need to pressure Taylor into throwing bad passes and trying to contain him will be very difficult. Our front four will need to get a push, which they havent really shown much of on the weak teams we have played. If we cant get a push we will need our secondary to play well and Taylor to make some bad decisions. With our record agianst dual threat QB's this game has me pretty worried.

Really?!

I think they've done a great job so far, I'd even go so far as to say they've been the strongest unit of our team. Compared to last year it's like night and day (9 sacks in 3 games compared to 13 for all of last season; plus 21 tackles for loss).

I'm not saying they'll be able to keep it up against better teams from here on out, but to say they haven't shown much of a push so far makes me wonder which games you were watching.

duh...did anyone else notice what their offense actually put out Saturday against GT? I am not worried about their offense. their paltry 240 or so yards yesterday was a joke.

Ok here is the deal. I have been a huge Husker fan my whole life, I lived in Nebraska throughout high school (still do during summers), but now I attend Georgia Tech (Sophmore). I would not let those numbers fool you. GT has a great front seven, along with some very good run support corners. In contrast, Nebraska does not have a premier defensive unit. In my honest opinion you have to add at least 100 yards of total offense against the Huskers do to the talent discrepancy. The passing game may not be great, but if the Huskers get gashed by the run, which is totally possible, that will open up the pass. GT was solid against Tyrod and the tailback and as a result the pass was not opened up very well. I would guess that Tyrod will have near 100 rushing yards by himself against the blackshirts, he is a top runner, but his accuracy is suspect.

Just out of curiosity, what are you basing the terms 'great front seven' and 'talent discrepancy' on? Georgia Tech's two games against suspect offensive lines or last year's 7-6 record?

Neither Taylor or Perrilloux are proven commodities. I think we're jumping the gun a bit on what any untested teams are really made of. Two or three games is way too early to be talking talent discrepancies....especially at Georgia Tech. Out of the last four years, Nebraska has had significantly higher ranked recruiting classes in three of them (that means that the experts would say that the current team talent at Nebraska exceeds that of Georgia Tech).

So unless you've been watching Nebraska games on PPV, and paying close attention...I'm curious how you're quantifying adding "100 yards of total offense...[due] to the talent discrepancy."

'Living in Nebraska' is not a qualification for ignoring statistics or sensibility.
