How long is too long

the tough part of this season was losing the last 2 games......that puts momentum in the toilet.......if we can win the Big 12 'ship or a major bowl game against a quality program (Auburn type) this next year, then that would be real progress......but to lose the Big 12 'ship again and stumble in a bowl game would just suck, would show we have peaked below expectations.........lead, follow or get the hell out of the way....you are either getting better or you are not..........

Wrong Skers...

Solich did all of those things I mentioned maybe not the conf title... I think he lost to Texas the one yr. Still the point is, its a what have you done for me lately profession these days no matter what you have accomplished in the past. Now Pedey didn't like him and they couldn't get along and found he couldn't support him. Add the fact he didn't like the direction he felt the program was headed and the split feelings among the Husker nation... Nevermind he could put rings on every person on this current staff fingers. Pedersen wants that BCS bowling thing going on. BC has 6 yrs to get it done. If he doesn't... he is gone. Personally I think that is more than fair.

Now we are 3 seasons into this thing and we have avg 5 losses a season so far. That hasn't happened since Jennings. The Husker nation will not be quiet if this continues. Its just a fact. So far its been average at best. Just ok. Lets be realistic here. Okay doesn't fly long around here. Not with our football. Its great to be optimistic, but while we are being this, lets be realistic too.

With the Husker nation, 4 and 5 loss seasons and bowl losses won't cut it no matter who's recruits are playing or who is coaching. Its just the nature of the beast.

(Sorry about the dbl post edititing thing...)

IMO, Cally needs to get us into a BCS game during both year 5 and 6 to call it a success.........and win at least one of those games....

I agree on the BCS game in 5 or 6. The number one problem we have with that, is the lack of QB that has proven he is capable of delivering it.

BC will get his full 6 years, I have my doubts on a BCS game in 07 though. Very tough schedule to do that. But this is the best year as far as chances go. Depends on Keller and his ability to pick up the offense. From what we hear he has, but we have not seen it on the field. I will not buy the Spring game as a certainty no matter how good he may look. One and done could hurt us the following year if we do not put the back ups in this year. That is the one draw back I have seen with BC. He is a typical NFL coach on that side it. He needs to learn to trust the young kids for experience. Not a norm in the NFL.

Sug, I meant Frank won with Tom's players. I do not count the 10-3 season. Even though I endoresed him till the day he left, his recruiting put us in the nightmare we are still in.

We have a rough road, because some look at our recruiting as knocking the socks off of people. I look at it as filling depth, but no real play makers. Auburn seems to fit into that category this year. I think we climb to a top 10-12 program this year, but BC needs to land some of the Big Dogs. We need to see the 5 star level athlete come here, like the other top programs. I don't know if he can do it or not, but I really don't know anyone else that I think can.

skers-

i am in complete agreement with you here, as often i am......we just happen to think and see things alike, most of the time......the recruiting problem is still in front of us........like you, i am not sure how we get some of the top SEC guys to move over here and play in our league.

as we saw this season, SEC speed and talent is 2nd to none......but cally has to find a way to get these kids to come......the problem so far is he is reluctant to let a lot of true freshmen play extensively, but as you said, relys too much on the "one and done" guys from JUCO's......in the long run, that does not build up your program and attract the high school kids as it needs to be.....when you watch the SEC schools play, their athletes are so much faster it is just sad to watch our guys play and try to match up......coaching seems to be better in that league too, maybe we need to seek out some of their assistant coaches, i dunno, but you wonder sometimes where cally's eye for talent may be.....you are correct though, we have no real play makers on this team....no one who can be a threat to take it to the house at any position, without threat type players, there is too much predictability in play calling and results.....Keller will be the lone reliable offense threat (his arm) unless Paul or someone else breaks through right away this season.....we need more fireworks!

I think if they got the ball to Purify more this last season we would have seen that playmaker....... <_<

Purify needs to learn how to get off the bump and run coverage first.....he has potential, but never really showed it last season, IMO......

I will agree on that..........he doesn't seem to create the seperation needed to make the catch sometimes. A guy his size should be able to push some DB's around IMO.........

yep, maybe he will get better and learn how to do that this season.....we sure need a "go to guy"............

Well hopefully with the class coming in we will find one of those guys in there, but I don't expect to see much out of any freshman this next year.

well, from what we know about this kid, if he doesn't see the field by at least the middle of the season, something is wrong with the cally process..

The way it sounds, is that we have a ton of young talent at the reciever position. Holt, Henry, and Brooks, all shined with Keller throwing them the ball this year on the scout team. Team those three up with Purify, Nunn, Swift, Peterson, and Paul. We should have plenty of weapons to spread across the field.

I agree that Paul is a great talent, and maybe he will contribute a lot next season, maybe he will contribute some and maybe he will redshirt. I dont think anyone can say that if he doesnt do this by mid season something is wrong with the coaches. Look at marlon lucky, everyone thought he would come in and start right away, but it took him a lot more time to get used to the college speed than anyone thought. With the people we have coming back I dont think its a stretch to see him used on special teams and a certain plays down near the red zone. With all the depth and young talent coming back it just depends on how fast he learns the offense.
