How many of you guys have lost friends to marriage?

Let me ask you guys this one, the married guys, can you just call/text and say "I am meeting so and so out for a few drinks, see you by 9pm"
Yes, without hesitation. She would be fine with it.

I'm sure there's a limit - if I was doing that several times a week, or not taking care of responsibilities at home, or if my carousing impinged on her plans too much, then she'd say something, but that's when you sit down and figure it out together.

You didn't ask for woman's opinion, but I'm going to give it anyway. Honestly, I think it depends on how long you've been married and if you've got kids. Maybe you should invite the misses once or twice, and she might let him fly solo. If a couple both work and have kids, life is exhausting and I could see wifey needing help at home or being jealous of him getting a few hours out while she stays home and does all the work. All though I think guys, and their counterparts, deserve a few evening a month of respite. When you are old and married (like me), sending the spouse out is a win/win. I get to watch LMN on the big tv in a clean house and he gets to go out and act stupid.

HAHA! Thats great!

This is a great thread! You can't let your friends personal lives affect their friendship with you. It's life folks. I'm still friends with all of my college buddies. Most of them have married and are starting families. I'm respectful of their choices. They all would love to hang out with me but they have other things on their plate.

Live your life and don't feel the pressure to "keep up with the Jones's." Get out there and meet new people.

I think this is a really good post!

This is one of the million reasons why I love my wife because she would be ok with it as long as I let her know where I'm at or what I'm doing. Its not because she watches me like a hawk and is a control freak, its just she worries about anything and everything.

Same thing goes for my wife. She can text/call me to let me know whats going on because she needs to enjoy her life and have fun as well. I tell my wife all the time that we only live once so make the most of it and have fun and really you need time for yourself and for your friends.

If I hung out with my wife every single day without doing anything with my friends or just being a lone watching sports or playing video games, I honestly think I would probably kill her or myself not because she's not enjoyable to be with but because you need a break from the marriage thing from time to time.

Did you have to get special permission to come to the bar with us?
Nope..I was all good there. I couldn't imagine having to tip toe around the old lady asking permission to go out every single time. But, I am old like that. heh

In my experience it has to do more with the kids than the marriage. Like Fro said it can take a lot of planning to get a night out on the town.

The married guy who goes out drinking with buddies at the drop of a hat. The one who’s in a monthly card game, plays on two softball teams, and wouldn’t think of missing a bachelor party trip to Vegas. You’ll never lose him as a friend due to marriage. Then again, he probly won’t be married for long.
