How to fix CFB?

• Get rid of the committee. There is absolutely no need for it, and it undermines the process every step of the way. Go back to the BCS rankings or build a new computer system, but the rankings need to be based on objective criteria even if it's not perfect.
Yep. But, don't even need the BCS ranking type system. Simply go with top two teams (maximum two per conference) in each conference with a couple at large bids. Maybe top two ranked teams from G5. Done.

The reality is there's no way to fix this without a collective bargaining agreement, and I don't think anyone is interested in that until this pure capitalism chaos has run it's course. The lawsuit where Georgia's collective is suing the Missouri player is the beginning of the end I hope.

Things I can think of that might help:

Collectives need to be abolished, and anyone funding the university or athletics in any manner needs to be barred from entering into a contract or paying a player directly or via a shell.

The transfer portal needs some serious updating. If players opt out of the post season or transfer before the end of the season they need to lose some type of eligibility.

If a coach poaches his old players when changing jobs there needs to be some kind of roster penalty at his new school and compensation to the previous school.

Roster size needs to go back up. The attrition from transfers is devastating to teams in the off season.

I agree to raise roster sizes, increase walkons/scholorship only players, and allow partial qualifiers. There's a lot of hidden talent and hungry zero star players out there that might keep the "big stars" more humble and allow teams to function when players bolt.

There needs to be a contract with players and coaches that they must play out the season or get penalized that year's salary or a large chunk of it.

Those two would fix a lot of issues immediately.

Colleges need to be held to the same standard and honor coaching contracts through the end of the season. Firing coaches mid season is dumb.

The whole not playing a bowl you're invited to should carry harsh penalties like loss of revenue and game broadcasts. What a slap in the face to supporters, with players and coaches voting to quit.

Sure trim the bowls down and expand the playoffs to cover the big bowls. Limit the number of teams in conferences so they all play each other and select the top 1 or 2 to the playoffs. No conference chamionship games.

Agree. Somehow, the pay needs to be part of the normal budgetary process of the athletic program based on normal revenue sources. Still going to be kind of hard to regulate that though. If you remember, this whole thing started because it was made legal for a player to earn money actually off of his/her "name, image and likeness". Those three things are personally owned by the individual. But, one huge step would be, the player needs to actually be doing something for the money. Like Dylan has a contract with Adidas to do advertising. Again, even with that, it's very difficult to regulate.

AMEN!!! And....along with that. Create a penalty for any program that poaches coach from another program before a certain date.

I don't have as big of problem with this as long as you get control of the transfer portal in some way. My biggest issue with the reduction in roster size was that the cut was so huge in one year. It needs to be gradually implemented over 3-5 years.

I agree and penalize programs that poach a coach from another program before a certain date. That should be after the bowls and playoffs.

And, that should be one of the easiest things to regulate.

24 team playoff like FCS, AQ's to decrease the relevance of the committee and ESPN's gaslighting and Pitaro's influence. Games on campus of the better seed until the semi finals. Just like the 69th team in the NCAA tournament, the 25th team that was snubbed will be less important than today with expansion. One portal window, one signing day. No coaching negotiations until after the season is over. If coaches can bolt without penalty, the players should be able to as well. I like the coaching negotiation window to occur before signing day so it reduces the chances of recruits being blindsided when a coach leaves. I enjoy bowl season because it's more college football but people should understand most of the bowls are ESPN creations for TV inventory and originally bowls were created to boost southern tourism. I don't want bowls to get in the way of advancing the sport of college football. If teams don't want to play in a bowl game because it costs them more than what they receive from the bowl I have no problem with it. Let the market decide if the bowl is necessary. Now that players are paid, if they voluntarily choose not to play a game, that portion of their contract should be reduced by any game they sit out if the player is healthy.

1. Salary Cap
2. Contracts for these NIL deals, 2 years minimum, no transferring during that contract, period.
3. Calendar that says no changes, coaching or players transferring can occur until after the season completes (say February 1st). Finish one year before the next.
4. Split P4 and G5 into different divisions, no scheduling across divisions
5. Expanded 16-20 team playoff with explicit, non-subjective rules for each P4 and G5 (win conference, make conference title game, get an auto bid, etc.).
6. Get rid of the committee, at large bids determined by average of multiple separate computer rankings or other method as humans cannot be unbiased or counted on to act the same way consistently. (Yes, bring back the BCS for this!)

Make all SEC teams play at least two games north of the Mason Dixon line in the snow.

This is a big pet peeve of mine. Why do people act like midwest/northern teams play in such frigid conditions for like half the season? Yeah, there is the occasional snow bowl, but mostly it is like one game a year with flurries.

The weather is one factor, but another complaint is they never play true road games. A lot of their non conference games are at neutral sites a mediocre ACC school 10 miles down the road. All relevant bowl games are also in their back yard.

I agree. But, if the games are scheduled late in the year, it could be colder than the typical SEC location. I like the idea more for the playoffs when it's much more likely.

What if universities set an academic requirement stating in order to play varsity sports you have to be on campus for 2-3 terms, unless you are: incoming freshman, hold an AA degree, or incoming grad student.

They’ll never all agree to go through with this but I wonder if universities could use academic expectations to curb what’s going on and circumvent cumbersome lawsuits.
