How do you win the Big Ten? Take a look at what the last five league champions have done against Big Ten opponents:

- All five teams finished in the top 3 in turnover margin in B1G games.

- Win in the red zone. Four teams scored touchdowns in at least 68 percent of red zone trips. The one team that didn’t (2013 MSU) shut down opponents on the other end. All five scored RZ touchdowns at a higher rate than they allowed.

- Three teams finished in the top 2 in scoring in B1G games, and MSU’s teams finished 4th (2015) and 5th (2013).

- These teams keep drives alive. Four teams finished in the top 2 in 3rd down conversions in league play (2012 Wisconsin was middle of the pack).

How to win the B1G CCG? Be the underdog. 2014 was the only year since we joined that the favorite won. And '14 tOSU went on to win it all in the playoff.

When was the last time Nebraska finished in the top 3 turnover margin in a league?

How do we win the B1G this year?

Win in Madison and in Iowa City. Then take your chances in Indy.

Go back to being Nebraska. Smash mouth on both sides of the ball. Incredibly physical and with a definitive mean streak. All of the above traits are accomplished by simply being more physical. On both sides...... I've lost track of how many times since we've joined the B1G when I said team "X" looks like the Huskers used to look.

Yeah, the Husker smashmouth football of the 1990s was AWESOME! We had the great fortune to witness our team execute the most dominating cfb dynasty of the modern era. Our guys were tougher, and in better shape, than any team we faced. Especially in the trenches. The problem is, other teams have caught up with us in terms of strength training and conditioning. Some teams may have passed us by. I'd love to see our guys physically dominate other teams on both sides of the ball. And I truly think we *can* improve in this area. But I just don't think we'll see a Nebraska team that can man handle our opponents again like we did in the 1990s. That ship has sailed. All the top teams have elite S&C programs these days. Then again, you just never know...

I don't think we practice hard enough nor have the most demanding fitness training both during and in the off season periods. You look at our offensive line in the UCLA game which had a pretty good physical edge, it appeared anyway, over UCLA and really too many of our big guys were too heavy, carrying a good 25 lbs of gut in my view. We need to push the conditioning and contact much harderto get the mentality and fitness level needed to dominate in the games physcially. Overpowering and wearing down teams requires superior strength AND conditioning. The best conditioned team will dominate in the second half because they are not tired and the opponent is and any opponent's 'speed' advantage is negated by fatigue and lack of endurance.

I think this year we will start to see addition by subtraction. The guys we have now and are recruiting are, IMO, passing the "eyeball test". We "look" more athletic. Look leaner and more like other teams that are winning.

Physicality has been missing for years as has the pit bull mentality. Get both of those, a lot of other things fall into place and other crap goes away.
