"The Blue Devil baseball team kicked its season off with a bang against Juniata Valley yesterday at home.

The Blue Devils played their hardest and managed to come out with a 5-0 victory.

Senior Chad Luensmann, who is signed to play with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, held the Hornets to just three hits and struck out nine in the shutout. Luensmann also had two hits, including a grand slam in the fourth inning"

Jimmy McClenaghan, a 2017 shortstop at Gregori High School in Modesto, Calif., committed to the Huskers this spring, and is enjoying a stellar sophomore campaign.

McClenaghan is hitting .350 with 11 RBI and 12 runs while doing a little bit of everything in the field and at the plate.

"The player is one thing, but he's a pretty good character guy," Gregori High School head coach Rob Steves said of McClenaghan. "As far as tools. Put it this way: He's the only sophomore on our varsity and he hits leadoff and he's been a true catalyst for us. Defensively. Offensively. Base running. He's got good tools. He really does. As a sophomore to commit, and it's a bonus for Nebraska to get a kid that early.

The 6-foot-1, 162-pound McClenaghan is currently playing left field because his high school has a four-year starter at shortstop, but the Husker recruit will eventually move to the infield next season, and then at the next level.

"He will walk right in right after graduation and take that shortstop spot and not look back," Steves said. "He's an athlete. Left field, he does fine, but he will transition to shortstop."
