Pelini gave Evans high praise at Big Ten media days, suggesting that Evans knew the position even better than the pacesetting Peso, Eric Hagg. Evans lacks Hagg’s sheer length, but he’s probably faster and possesses equally good ballskills.

He emerged in 2011 as a dangerous deep threat whose speed could burn any Big Ten defensive back. He backed it up in 2012 with one of the best receiving seasons in Husker history — 50 catches, 863 yards and eight touchdowns. Despite defenses marking his fly-route speed with double coverage, he made even more big plays ...

Kenny Bell is my all-time favorite Husker WR. I look forward to seeing him dominate every Husker WR record before he leaves. And then watching him play Sundays for many years. I think he has that kind of talent.

Husker Camp Countdown: No. 2 Ameer Abdullah

Three running backs arrived as true freshmen in 2011. Two were top 100, four-star recruits. The third was Abdullah. The top 100 recruits left town — in big part because Abdullah beat them out.

It's been fun to watch Abdullah get on the field as an awesome true frosh punt/kick returner, then work his way up the depth chart to no. 1 RB. At first I was worried about his durability due to his size. But the guy is tough. That, and it's near impossible for a defender to put a big hit on him.

Husker Camp Countdown: No. 1 Taylor Martinez

<snip> His big plays left tread marks on some of the Big Ten’s best defenses, including Michigan State. Spartans defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi was so impressed by Martinez’s fourth-quarter comeback and 205 running yards that he said Martinez “basically beat us single-handedly.”

Martinez has broken most significant Nebraska quarterback records during his tenure. He holds the record for total career starts (39), career passing yards (6,591), career total offense (9,449 yards) and career completions (506). He also has the single-season record for total offense (3,890 yards). Presuming he stays healthy, he’ll put a bunch of records out of reach for all but another four-year starter like himself.

This is his year. I'm a huge Martinez fan. Always have been. My only dig is with the turnovers. Despite the turnovers, there have been quite a few games that T-Magic simply took over and won for us. Games that not many QBs could have won on their own.
