Husker Offensive Units: Better or Worse this year?

OL-Has been inconsistent for about 10 years. If some of the young talent can step up, if they can cut the stupid penalties (false starts/holding) this group SHOULD improve, but that remains to be seen

RB-Losing Roy and D-Tray will hurt. IMO, Roy was the best back we've had since LP, even though he was somewhat a Jekyll and Hyde. He could go for 300 and 3, or he could get 10 totes for 30, just never know. Rex can do everything, and hopefull Green, Heard, and AA make it. If so, they can possibly give us more depth than we had and better all around speed, but I can't help to think that we will take a step back early, for sure.

QB-We hope that another year in the system and T-Mart getting healthy will ensure that this is better than last year. However, after OSU, T-Mart seemed to regress in many of the mental aspects of the game. Hopefully a year of maturity and a healthy ankle and toe (cough, cough) will help this out. Should be better.

TE-Reed is a stud, Cotton is solid. Other than that, we really, really, need some depth here. Can Jake Cotton or one of the DE's possibly move to this position?

WR-probably about the same. The one thing we have lost sight in with the loss of Niles, he was a very good blocker at that position, and with the emphasis on the zone read/running game, this will be a loss.

K-Obviously Henery was the best of all time, but I would have to think that we would be able to find someone who is at least serviceable out to 50-53 yards. We will be worse, but maybe not as bad as many think.

OL- Better (don't kill me) Cotton has to know he has a foot out the door so will push his guys harder on penalties and physicality. Much more depth. Yoshi will have a break out year and I can't help but think that the young blood that was brought and the 4 coming in are going to be VERY hungry for the field (and Twinkies)

RB - Same Helu was good but I had the feeling he was put into games just hoping for a big run. Rex will fill the hole left and Green shows good potential to be solid

TE - Same under used before underused again Reed and cotton could and should be used for our benefit but will make good blockers instead

WR - This is the one That has me worried. Our WR corp. has looked like a Gaggle F**K for a while and no signs for improvement more dropped passes and mysterious field slipping to come. Unless we have some players move positions or our QBs learn to lodge the ball into their face-masks we will be a single trick pony again.

QB - Better t-mart had a ton of valuable experience even the bad games help him to learn. Green still showed a couple sparks of talent. Mix in 3-4 unproven guys to push the pile and add depth. I think people will be surprised with the improvement of this position (maybe I'm just wishful thinking)

K- Worse we will find a replacement that is average to slightly better than average. I'm just hoping we can land Mauro Bondi.

Offensive Line: We will have to tranistion new guards, Arod and Ash, Moudy? Id like to see Sirles and Yoshi on the field at the

same time as i feel Yoshi really came into his own late in the year. Caputo will have a full year of starts under

his belt and might add a few pounds in the off season.

Running Back: We look pretty thin with the graduation of Roy and the transfer of Dtray. Im not sold on Ward/Okafor, but i havent

seen enough to judge(have the coaches?). Would have been great to have Heard in last year/this semester as Rex will

have to carry the weight as the young blood gets their taste at the D1 level.

Wide Reciever: Im not sure how to rate this group. We lose Niles and McNeil, but im hoping that makes rooms for some young talent

in Enunwa, Bell and Evans to finally see the field. BK will be clutch, but he will need help.

Tight End: Another thin position on offense. Kyler is very dynamic or us and can really stretch defenses, Cotton was used mostly

in as a blocker. Whos left after those two? I think we will be better at TE as long as they stay healthy.

Quarterback: Taylor should be developing into a all-round qb, he needs to work on pre-snap reads, foot work in the pocket and ball

security. I think he will show great improvements for us this fall. Maybe Brion can push taylor to become great?

Id have to say im most confident in our Oline(sad to say) and the qb spots heading into spring ball. Untill we establish deapth at the WR TE and RB positions i am unsure of how well those units will fair.

OL- Same we lose some guys but I think we should be able to replace them ok with some of our nice young talent.

RB - Worse I don't expect a drop off with Burkhead but we will need some of our young Freshman to make big contributions for it to be as good as last year.

TE - Better Reed was a big play machine and should only improve on that next year and Cotton is a good blocker.

WR - Worse Kinnie is the only proven receiver on the squad and it will be hard to replace Niles and McNeil. If T-Magic has a much improved passing game though we may be ok though.

QB - Better T-Magic should improve a fair amount his sophomore year.

K- Worse you can't replace Henery with anyone.

It's brutally difficult to slam down the Kool-aid with SW, Gilmore & Barney still around. But I'll try....

OL - worse - On paper shoud be worse but I still think they "main" problem is Barney taking marching orders from a average at best WCO based OC. Fluff ball isn't Barney's thing. Especially changing the offense mid-way through the year. Every year. Something has to change. Desperately.

TE - Better - Cotton is a good blocker (that we need so badly) and Reed is money.

WR - worse - Gilmore will waste any and all talent available. He does a good job coaching his wrs to block, which is great. But catching the ball is great too and they're a miserable failure at that.

RB - Push. Roy was a damn fine rb we lose but we're bringing in two (maybe three) studs. Rex is a gamer.

QB - HUGE improvement. Yeah, everybody and their brother on this forum hates this kid with a passion. What I would give to see some of the posters here on the field with a bad ankle/turf toe "and" a grossly incomptent OC & QB coach. As a freshman too. Oh, I'm sure they'd still tear thing up. If you don't believe that, just ask them.

Even with the overwhelming hatred from our fans for our freshmen qb I call him to rip the Big10 apart "despite" SW's....ahem...."coaching" and even worse (if possible) play calling. He's an extreme playmaker and those to blind to see and/or appreciate that....well, that's par for the course.

K - Alex is gone. God help us. If you want to check out of this world just imagine 2009 without him.

I still stand by Bo and his will to win. He'll get rid of the offensive staff and bring in people who have a clue about what they're doing. No way we wants to waste yet another NC caliber defense. If so, the sky is the limit.

QB - If Martinez gets back to pre-Missouri game injury form, the offense should be clicking. Will be interesting to see if Brion Carnes passed Cody Green on the depth chart. I think Jamal Turner is the wildcard of this group of quarterbacks. Bubba could challenge for the starting job but will probably declare for the draft

RB - Overall, about the same. As good as Roy was at times, he had a fumbling problem. Rex Burkhead doesnt. Aaron Green & Ameer Abdullah will help Burkhead shoulder the load. If Braylon Heard somehow makes it to campus before the start of the season, that would be huge

FB - Same

WR - Don't see how it could be any worse. Brandon Kinnie returns but I wasnt as impressed with him this year as last year. He dropped quite a few passes this year, often at critical times & was not the same sure handed receiver he was at the end of the 2009 season. The second wide receiver slot is really wide open. Gilleylen, Marlowe, Khiry Cooper, Steven Osborne, Stanley Jean Baptiste, Quincy Enunwa & Kenny Bell all unproven - some1 will have to step up

TE - Better. Ben Cotton is the blocker, Kyler Reed the playmaker. We cant afford for either of these 2 to get injured

OL - Same, maybe worse, or better if the new guards can step it up. Will be interesting to see if Hardrick can win the starting LT job & be the pro caliber LT he was hyped up to be. Tyler Moore could end up winning a starting job. Caputo will be solid. The key will be for Rodriguez & Qvale to step it up.
