Husker Opponents - Reputations

It seems a lot of posters here feel like BYU is "good" but that we should have rolled them, because "we are the Huskers". And of course, many don't feel that way.

In terms of national respect, BYU has been, more often than not, an "almost contenter" for quite some time. They won the Nat championship in 84 I think it was.

How many of our other opponents this year have won a National Championship (lets say, starting in 1950 or after)?

Michigan State - I think so.

Illinois - maybe, but I think they were before 1950

Minnesota - not since 1950

Miami - yes

Northwestern - no

Iowa ---- LOL

Wisconsin NO

Purdue - not sure, they were good once upon a time.

Anyway, my point is, BYU was not a "school of deaf and blind orphan girls" cupcake game. And sadly since around 2005, they probably have as much national respect was we do.

It is these types of schools we need to start beating consistently. It didn't happen this time.

I like how Iowa is an LOL when they have a legitimate title claim from '58, and the rest of them you didn't even bother to research

Michigan State has 6 last one in 1966

Illinois has 5 last one in 1951

Minnesota has 7 last one 1960

Miami has 5 last one in 2001

Northwestern, correct they have none

Iowa as The Landlord said claimed one in 1958

Wisconsin also has none

Purdue has none

Rutgers who wasn't mentioned claimed one in 1869 after tying Princeton with a 1-1 record.

I'd look at their reputation as a program for a different perspective:

MSU- physical hard hitting

Miami-Nasty, mean

Minnesota- well coached, sound team

etc.....

I know I over looked BYU as they are west coast, independent and never make it on tv in NC..... Other programs have national cache based on tv coverage and reputation (not titles), but how they play.
