Husker Power v Longhorn Magic

Eric the Red

Team HuskerBoard
'96 James Brown pulls back on a 4th and short and catches the Huskers off guard for a 50 yard gain late in the game helping the 18 point underdog horns to the first ever Big 12 Champ game.

'98 Williams runs for two late TD's to halt NU's 47 game home winning streak.

'99 Longhorn hold on NU All American Mike Brown not called, late fumble on goal line goes against NU helps seal the deal for Texas. (Huskers get redemption in Big 12 Champ game - laying an even greater claim that it's very difficult to beat a team twice in one season.)

'02 Lord throws an INT with under a minute to go at home after the HUskers fought so hard and shows it's first glimer of hope against a highly ranked opponent in an otherwise trying season.

'06 Nunn fumbles with 2:00 minutes remaining. Colt McCoy, in a brilliant game, leads UT down the field to a field goal and dashes NU's hope of their first signiture wins of the BIll Callahan ERA in their qwest for "Natioanl Respect"....

PS Just remember NU had CU's number for quite a few years then got slobber knockered 62-36...Kansas St went up against undefeated Oklahoma, upto that point was being considered one of the greatest teams ever in the Big 12 Champ game and blew out the Sooners.

CAN THE HUSKERS TAKE CARE OF BUISNESS AND RETURN THE FAVOR TO UT AND THEIR LONGHORN MAGIC?

Good post. Of the all the games I've been to, the last 2 Texas home games have been my favorites. The game was electric (and for some reason it wasn't soo much against OU last year-- I was actually disappointed with our crowd). This game, we were in it the whole way. Even though we weren't ahead by much, I thought we had the game. We both got breaks, but on the road, Texas just lucked out the biggest.

How many times did a team coached by T.O. get hit by sooner magic. It happens and we will get the shot at them again in December if we take care of our first goal. WIN THE NORTH. Great game its just to bad the game will be remembered for one play. It was a great effort for our team to come out in the second half and take the lead. I was impressed with our adjustments.

I have high hopes for this team and they will bounce back. If nothing else we woke some people up and they have to realize that the HUSKERS are almost back to where they feared we would get to.

That's the thing every team has a team they just can't beat.

How would you like to be Kansas, KSU or MIzzouri. Those streaks against NU were like 25 years.

Texas couldn't beat OU for awhile, and when they did, they won that championship. It is not unusual for a team to have struggles against another team. I'm just glad that our team was not intimidated at all against Texas.

I tell you what, I think that is what most upset me yesterday; the apparent 'magic.' It was like I was having flashbacks to the days Nebraska would somehow lose by 3 in the wanning seconds of the game. It was like we are living it all over again except it's another team that has been passed the 'magic.'

After picking up "The Times-Picayune" here in New Orleans and turning to the second page of the sports section I feel much better.

There, in all of their glory, was a 4x6" photo of Nebraska Fans. It read:

Corn Dogs: Fans for underdog Nebraska broke out their full regalia, including corn-shaped headgear, to help inspire the Cornhuskers against Texas. But the Longhorns spoiled the party scoring on a late fieldgoal.

We've achieved national attention...it's just not ESPN's. :thumbs

These UT games are really starting to hurt, and we don't even play every year, but it's always the same story. I really hope we can pay them back in KC.

Actually this thread has actually helped me get past the lose, at least a little. It's just Longhorn magic...

As we continue to get better, we will have more of these heartbreakers. It's part of being a top team, which I am becoming more convinced we will be as early as next year.

Here's a good example of a series: In the '60s and '70s, Notre Dame rarely defeated USC. But in the '80s and '90s the tide turned to the Irish's favor. Now that Pete Carroll(sp?) has arrived, the tide has turned back to USC. And the UT-OU rivalry has gone back and forth many times.

So yes, these NU-UT matchups could go back and forth, also. Since the flavor of the NU-OU matchups has lost some of its punch, it would be nice to play UT every year. This easily could be the big rival that OU use to be. And UT perhaps would look at it as a close second to OU.

YOU think they really hurt? Try being a Husker living in Austin, Tx! I've had to suck it up for 6 out of 7 games now! - I'm just looking forward to making it 6 out of 8 on Dec 2nd!

Some good points out there. But I dont buy into the Longhorn magic. Most of the teams we put out there against Texas just weren't Championship contender teams. It takes wicked voodoo magic to beat Championship teams, not good-to-average teams.

Will end the streak soon enough. Should've. Could've. But didn't. Have a lot of Texas friends down here in Dallas-FtWorth. They all came up and said "I feel for you dawg, you had us". Even a few OU friends told me the same thing. I just smiled, felt consoled, then when no one was around, curled up in a fetal position.

;)

GBR!!
