Husker QB - TJ Lateef

I know a lot of us fans like to romanticize the idea of playing for the Huskers and running through brick walls and all that...

But in the end most of us would rather run to the bank and deposit fat stacks.
 
Let’s play these next 2 games as we are getting ahead of ourselves. If TJ rolls PSU and Iowa then we really have something. I suspect these games will be close though. I kinda sense they are toss ups so if he wins both that shows me a lot.

I was at the game. TJ had a good crowd supporting him in his own backyard. PSU is going to be different to play there. I really liked what he did but UCLA does not have a good defense and EJ housing 2 passes was critical. How will he play with a hostile crowd, if we are down in the game, or if he turns it over? Does he have the firepower to get us back in the game? I want to see how he does under adversity.

I’d like to have both QBs going into next season. TJ really likes Nebraska. 1 game at a time. GBR.

Emmett is getting plenty of stats and attention here, and it's a stretch to think he'll do better given one season on a different team. But it's a much easier pitch to Barney that he's under-utilized, and to Lateef that he won't have to wait.

This is true. Im a coach and telling Barney, u have all that speed and they cant get u open on a Go route lol. Come here. We have plenty of those for you. :)

Rhule said something yesterday like "I bet some of those guys that left last year wish they were still here". He can use "the grass isn't always greener" with potential transfers, especially if we can make a competitive offer that is in the ballpark of a larger offer.

For guys that went to other P4 programs some of them padded their bank accounts, but I would count only 2 as "for sure successes"

James Williams - FSU is a mess, but he's playing
Stefon Thompson - FSU is a mess, but he's playing
Jimari Butler - LSU is a mess, but he's playing
Grant Seagren - Okie St is a mess, back into portal
Jaylen Lloyd - Okie St is a mess, back into portal
Dante Dowdell - less carries and yards than he had last year
Jaidyn Doss - No stats at KU
Ian Flynt - 1 game at NC State
Xander Ruggeroli - No stats at Ariz St
Daniel Kaelin - got game action last week at Virginia after starter got hurt
MIkai Gbayor - UNC is a mess, but he's playing
Malachi Coleman - 3 catches at Minnesota
Nate Boerkircher - better stats at A&M than he had here
Princewill Umanmielen - better stats at Ole Miss than he had here

I don't see DR changing much. He's had 20+ starts and has had professional QB coaches for years now. He is what he is IMO and I don't see that changing. A better OL would surely set him up for more success, but that's every single QB on every team in the country.

You don’t think players can improve after the age of 20 and 20 games played?!?!?

Because PSU and especially Iowa have better defenses than UCLA. He could be great against both but the chances are he's going to struggle against good P4 defenses like most QBs do.

I also wonder how much of the "TJ" playbook was used. He didn't run half as much as I expected, but for the most part, he didn't have to.

I was thinking about that too. On top of more open plays, I think he will have to improvise a lot more to find success against the next two.

I'm sure some improvement is possible but I think DR next year is 90-95% the same as this year. He's already physically mature and very experienced with an advanced training age, despite his relatively young chronological age. His strengths and weaknesses will likely remain what they are now. The gameplan to beat DR is the same this year as it was for the Illinois game last year and there are good reasons for that.

I agree, he will struggle somewhat. He's not very experienced and those defenses will do their best to take advantage of that. On the other hand, I'd be shocked if he gets sacked 9 times in any game, ever, so there's that. I think the next 2 defenses would have caused difficulty for DR too.

SI article on Rhule’s comments last month about the O and he wanted. The author alluded the UCLA is what they’ve wanted. And with our receiver group might allow Dana’s O to thrive. Seemed high on the “new” look.

I would take a healthy DR but it's close because I love the zone read and what it does to defenses.
