Huskers #21 in Athlon's preseason rankings

I think this is an appropriate starting point for the Huskers. But I got to ask. Who cares what our record is going into Ann Arbor? I don't get the fascination of being 8-0 playing Michigan. If we are 8-0 and then get killed like what happened the first time, what has been accomplished? Maybe I am missing something but it seems so arbitrary to care about this. What if we are 7-1(loss to UCLA, for instance) and then we go into Michigan and win by say 1. Did we learn anything more or less about the team?

I am worried about being 12-0 going into the B1G CCG and hopefully 13-0 after that and hopefully 14-0 after that.
Because in team sports it's preferable to win more games, as opposed to winning less games. It's really as simple as that.

Why do I feel like I'm in an AT&T commercial?
Of course. You're right. I just don't understand the Michigan angle. Why in particular is that the benchmark?

Michigan is the litmus test for our season. As it is the first significant B1G competition on the schedule.

But it's the litmus test regardless if we are 8-0 or 6-2.

Michigan is the most important game. It will probably be the tie-breaker for the division. They could have said 4-0 in conference, they chose to say 8-0.

It is implying it will be a bigger game. We COULD be 4-4 and it still have the same division impact, but being 8-0, and Michigan being 7-1 or 8-0, it will be a bigger game. That is what they're getting at.

I guess I don't understand your confusion.

So 4-4 going to Ann Arbor and getting a win would be ok?

I'm a little confussed.

Getting any win is ok. I guess I am just not following the importance of being 8-0 going into Michigan in particular. Other than we are 8-0. This was mentioned on a different thread as well. Being 8-0 going into your 9th game of the year is big regardless if it Michigan or Indiana or South Dakota State. My point was that we have to take care of business either way regardless of record.

I think it's because Michigan has the most potential to be a "big" game this year. The higher we're ranked, and the higher they're ranked, the better.
