I completely disagree with this old mentality. You can't train tough. Not at this age. They should have it already.

What is meant by "You can't train tough."?

They should have it already. If they don't, that's on the parents for letting them be soft.

If Riley's team gets beat by someone like Purdue because the cornerbacks repeatedly whiffed on a tackle, he can't say, "That's on the parents for letting them be soft." can he?

I think he means that the old school, 90's mentality of, "We were so good in games because practice was way way way harder that playing on Saturdays felt like a cake walk" just doesn't work anymore.
