Huskers @ Illinois

Hmm......let's see what we could talk about with this one.

1. Inability to recognize the one guy who has killed you all day, Bertrand, is getting a pick at the top of the key and Ubel does NOT hedge or divert him one bit allowing the score to o up 2. Stupid. Great effort by Toney to take the charge(and the call was correct) but it should never have happened.

2, Inability to hit big FTs. I will also throw in inability to take care of the basketball here. These are two things that Doc's teams have NEVER fixed. Yes their FT pct. is decent this year, but when it comes to crunch time it is usually brick time. The TOs are a joke. Game after game.

3. Inability manage the end of the game. Down two, and all NU can muster is a designed play for Bo to shoot a 3? And then the fact that Bo rushes that shot as a fade away 3?? The two for one arguement to crap when this team can't get points in possession number one.

4. Inability of JBD to catch a ball. Enough said. The guy shouldn;t be playing he brought NOTHING today. And it cost them at the end.

5. And people think the football team lacks discipline as a reflection of Bo, then what in the hell would they say about the BBall team? I guess not much because they probably haven't watched this team play.

I believe a lot of it comes down to two things............

(1) When you run a perimeter offense as your base (passively tossing it around the perimeter until under 10 seconds)..............you are ill-equipped to run an aggressive offense at the end of the game.........simply not used to ATTACKING the rim. And it shows.............and Doc should be able to figure that out..............BUT...............??

(2) It's wrong to generalize (and they do play HARD), but closing out at the end of games is largely mental................and we seem to lack mental toughness...............thus we see the continual FT bricks, turnovers, mental breakdowns (a senior.......Richardson.........getting an intentional foul when so unnecessary); a fade away 3 from Bo.... another senior..........!

Hate to make the comparison, but right now the football team seems to be replicating the BB team in terms of lack of mental toughness in tight games or at the end of games.

One thing that has always puzzled me is end of game situations (across all of College Basketball-not just NU). Consistanly I watch guys in the last 1-2 minutes of the game do things that just don't seem rational. Kids in HS these days play ball year-round and I know some of them will play 60+ games over summer break but seem to forget what to do at the end.

How, HOW, could we possibly crap that game away? We had it in the bag with a couple minutes to go. That was a sad performance at the end there. It's gonna be a long season for us.

Doc just sounded confused in that article. I wish I had a chance to watch that game today. Sounds like they should have won. Bummer....

I'm looking at the schedule and don't really see any game we can optomistacally say is a possble win unless the other team just pi$$e$ it down their leg. What SADler needs to realize is that the B1G is not only a football conference its is also a basketball conference. If this guy comes back as coach next year it will be like we are throwing in the towel before the season even starts. Maybe we could move our basketball conference affiliation to a NAIA conference.

The DOCtor needs to be OUT!

I am predicting 2 - 3 conference wins. Probably just enough for T.O. to bring Doc back.................... :flush
