Brian Christopherson, Husker247:
I'll put my stock in outside linebacker
Tyrin Ferguson. The fifth-year senior had 36 of his 44 career tackles a season ago, including six tackles for loss. So it's not like he hasn't already gotten some things done. There's more out there for him, though. Throughout his career, Ferguson has either had a logjam in front of him on the depth chart, or injuries right when opportunity was arising, and that carried into 2018 when a nagging muscle injury limited him to appearances in just eight games, and four starts total.
But the 6-2, 230-pound native of New Orleans has all the traits to put up some monster numbers in Erik Chinander's 3-4 schemes and quickly jump to the attention of the unknowing in the Big Ten if he can stay healthy. I'd say he's on the short list of Huskers who could lead the team in TFLs and/or sacks this season. A year ago, Ferguson had a career-high 10 tackles in Nebraska's opener. I thought at the time, 'Here we go.' It didn't go just as planned. But maybe the explosion anticipated was simply a year away.
