That's the semantics of this whole issue. People keep saying "Nelson left early" or "Nelson entered the draft", when I don't treat it like that at all. After playing for 4 seasons (which is normally the most one can play), Nelson was ready to move on from college football and give it a shot at the NFL. I think Nelson was hopeful to get drafted, but he was probably realistic that he wasn't going to be drafted, and he would need to go through the UDFA route. He was done with college football, and I don't blame him.
