LJSTucker Zeleny can take his position as Nebraska's first director of sports analytics and data analysis in any number of directions.
The frontier is wide open.
But how can he make it matter?
"That's the big question because I could dig around all day and find stuff that's interesting to me," he says. "But if our coaches can't use it, what's really the point?"
The 27-year-old native of Carleton, a town of about 100 located 40 miles south of York, is understated, professional, focused — at least that was my takeaway. He's not exactly a blowhard. You have to press him for information about his playing days at Thayer Central (he was a starting safety and receiver in 2005 for a state semifinalist team).
From his office, he looks out toward Ed Weir Stadium and the Coliseum. He has a few books on the shelves — light reading such as "Applied Regression Analysis."
