Huskers land TAMU RB transfer Deondre Jackson

If Yant would get his act together and come to spring practice weighing around 230, he could be something with his power and very good speed. It appears he’s faster than Stepp and apparently Jackson who said he is a 4.5 guy. Yant is the only one I see who has the potential to be more than a serviceable RB. But I could be wrong. I hope they are still trying to get Allen. 

 
I kind of agree that it's a depth situation.

Gabe Ervin (health/ACL)

Yant (health/endurance)

Stepp (???)

Mr Minnesota Emmet Johnson (my fav for real) will be a true frosh.

Could this possibly be a tip-off to our next RB coach? - The guy that recruited Deondre to Texas A&M and historically is a Running Backs coach (but who last was in charge of Special Teams at Alabama, before taking a Mental Health break from coaching)?

He would surely be getting a pay raise if selected for the Running Back coach position at Nebraska.

And Deondre might have wanted to go where the guy who recruited him was going to be the RB Coach (might have been tipped off). I would imagine that part of the interview process might include the question: "Do you know of any worthy transfer prospects?"

The main thing that concerns me about this kid is that in his HS clips he had some gaping holes to run through... he won't have that luxury here. I'm still crossing my fingers for Allen, but the fact that they took Jackson makes that doubtful.

Funny, but a lot of schools felt differently after watching his tape, when he came out of High School. Besides Texas A&M he had 21 offers:

I was talking about our current rbs

 
He was only given one carry all year and that carry went for -2, in what I assume was garbage time, against Prairie View A&M. I was kind of hoping every back we already have could do better than that.

Hard to judge the kid on that but I get your point.  Maybe he just didn't fit there for whatever reason.  Hopefully a fresh start is what he needs.

Honestly with Stepp’s injury history and the issues Yant has had with his weight, it makes sense to me. Take a tank of a kid with no notable injury history who has been through two years of college conditioning/routine and see what happens.

Yant is a load and avoids contact.  It’s tough for me to watch.

I want him to be good, but I don’t see it.

 
Can't really judge our RB's or Jackson.  He had a slot of great offers.  As mentioned above, -2 yards in one carry sucks, but he was also number 6 in carries behind two guys that went over 900 yards.  One over 1000 and one close to 1000....They had some legit talent in front of him. The run might have been him mentally just being done.  Thinking "really, a carry in garage time against Prairie"....

I still go back to not one of our RB's was actually coached in 4 years.  be interesting to see what "he who yet to be named" can do with them.  A better passing attack, will help get guys outs of the box so we are not facing loaded boxes on every down.  Creativity should also help.  I am anxiously optimistic to see next season.

I'm more optimistic. He's went through some narrow openings. Good lateral movement. He's got some size and keeps on churning. Will be interesting to see how Jackson develops and what we can do with him.

Yant reminds me of an old school NU back.  The limited time he played was a good preview of what he could be.

Every big run he had was a designed play to go inside.  But he took the ball and ran all the way around the offensive tackle, to avoid contact.  It worked, but you are right.  He avoids the contact and saw the bench.
