Huskers Red Zone Offense Worst in B1G

Where do you gain advantages in the red zone?

Running game, including QB

Tall WR

Big Pass catching TE

Creative Play Calling
Guys who can block so we average better than 1.8 yard per carry in the red zone.  That's pathetic and that's not coaching.  These kids have played for years and they can't do better than 1.8 yards?  Kids should be able to fall for 1.8 yards.  The NIU game showed how pathetic our line is.  Outweighed the opposing line by a wide margin and still couldn't push them around in the fourth quarter.

I get that the o-line run blocking is pathetic and the plays deserve a lot of blame, but part of that is coaching, too.  We know that Cav/Langs/Riley all prioritize pass-blocking over run blocking, and Cav hasn't shown that he can develop and improve linemen during his time at NU.

If we had a running game it wouldn't matter if we had a pocket passer or not.

He doesn't take off running but he is hardly a statue.
Having a mobile QB is a huge component in the red zone.  Whether it be designed runs or options for the QB, or the QB able to scramble and make plays with his feet on a called pass play.

That above post comments specifically on the QB run game, and 2 posts earlier you say the QB run game isn't important in the red zone?

COMMENTS RETRACTED!!!  Got confused on who was quoting me.  My bad!!!

You must have me confused for someone else. I only posted the list you quoted, and it says no such thing.

When there's scant to cheer about...beggars can't be choosers.  :dunno

am I the only one that gets a sense of finger pointing or excuse making when the coaches are quoted these days?  whether it be back at the players or between coaches. its subtle but i def get that vibe.

There was a rumor posted on here this week that Riley and Langsdorf aren't happy with each other, I wonder if Cavanaugh is included in that animosity.  After Ohio State, Riley said that he thought the offense would be better, so of course that's putting the spotlight on Langsdorf and Cavanaugh.

You don't need special training to push the guy in front out you down the field when you outweigh him by 60 pounds.  That's laziness and ineptness.  Cav/Langs/Riley, on the other hand, have put guys in the NFL.  Yes, there are olinemen in the NFL that went to OSU.  There's a problem here.  Does it go to an incredible lack of talent, coaching or both?  The coaches have a track record.  The players don't.

I'm happy to read this and I hope it's true.  A little fire is what this entire team needs.  Cavs needs to chew out his players in a bad way.  Get 'em pissed off.  I'd start by feeding them tofu.  Nothing fires up a fat guy like messing with his food. ;)
