Huskers v. Sooners

Hello Huskers,

I am a lifelong Sooner fan that spent the majority of his youth looking forward to one Sturday in November when the reigning powers of the college football world met for all the marbles.

I was crushed when the Big XII decided that the Oklahoma - Nebraska game didn't rate an annual meeting.

As a kid, the Thanksgiving holiday wasn't complete without watching the battle of the Big Reds.

Although times have changed, I always look forward to this game. I've been to every Big XII stadium, with the exception of Iowa State, as well as numerous out of conference stadiums, and I can say without any reservation that Nebraska fans are the single best fan base in the land. Well, with the exception of the Sooners, of course :)

As with any program, you're bound to have your fair share of morons that spoil it for the rest, but I can say that I have never had anything but good encounters with Husker fans.

I live in Colorado now, and it's funny the way that these people think that they have a rivalry with the Huskers. I try to tell them that the rivalry is somthing that they have come up with in their minds, and that NU has been a sleeping giant, that is awakening and soon will view CU as nothing more than a division II opponent, but they will have none of it.

As for this year, we have fallen far from our expectations. I fullyexpect this Saturday to be a tough game that will probably not be decided until well into the fourth quarter.

I know that the Huskers have struggles on offense, but from an outsider's perspective, this isn't the same program that once had Bill Calahan walking the sidelines. I for one would love to see the Nebraska program back to it's rightful seat at the power-house table. It's good for the Big XII, it's good for football, but's is mostly good for that one Saturday in November when I remember what it was like to feel that rivalry.

And, if it's not too much to ask, can you wait one more week before you get your 6th win?

Welcome to the board!

I too miss our annual meeting, I have nothing but respect for the OU program. Always have and always will.

Welcome to the board Sooner K!

I hope its close as you mentioned. Otherwise we'll be hearing the Boomer Sooner Fight Song over and over and over! Fun for you, not so fun for us! :)

Yeah, I was at the game in Norman last year and I heard that song like 50 times in the first 3 minutes of the game <_<

Anyway, welcome to the board Sooner K, and I too suspect that this Saturday will be a good one ...as long as the offense doesn't gift wrap you guys a few scores.

Yep all my sooner friends have a sense of dignity about them when this game rolls around. It's such a great game because of the history and competition. Someone tried to tell me that OU always viewed Nebraska as we do colorado. I figured that was BS so it's nice to see some more confimation. Here's to a great game won on the field and the officials will just get out of the way and let us hit each other!

Nice to have you here, SoonerKeith.

I gotta tell you out of all the fan bases I like talking to the most, Oklahoma is second to none (other than talking to other Husker fans of course :) ). They've been through down times (the 90's) and had bumps and bruises just like Nebraska, so they know exactly what's like to fall from grace and then struggle to find yourself again.

Hope to have you here long after the game. Lord knows we could use some more valuable football talk, especially come off season.

welcome, welcome, welcome, even after saturday's game stick around, we like having people from other fan bases come her to talk football!

Nothing but respect for the Sooner faithful even if some soon forgotten idiot thought you were a bunch of freakin hillbillies!! That didn't go over very well in Huskerland by the way!! Forecast is for a beautiful day weatherwise, ( I sat through a below zero day back in the mid 90's), primetime Saturday night, and once again renewing a college football rivalry that has given us several "Game of the Centuries". Welcome aboard and hope you keep showing back up.

I'm looking forward to the game too, great respect for NU, though I do like to talk a little smack here and there, all in fun. It's odd...with our other rival, you know who, they wear the godawful burnt orange, I just wish them ill. I want to see them lose. Period. They could be playing Satan and the Imps and I would be seriously tempted to pull for ole Lucifer. It's not that way with the Huskers. I REALLY want to beat the corn out of you, but when we're not playing, I want to see you do well. And I've been a fan since the Big 8 days, when it was really heated, sat thru some beatdowns at your hands in the 90's, and still have respect for your program and fans. I guess I've just had too many bad encounters with #$@#% horn fans. Anyway, I won't wish you good luck on Saturday, that's just too much to ask, but I will wish you "no injuries" and "good officiating". And good luck with the REST of your season. BOOMER!!!!

Not a week of the college football season gets me more excited then NU vs OU.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's many a Thanksgiving weekend was determined good or bad as to how the game turned out....... I miss those days.

Wish we had the horses to run with you guys.

Good luck the rest of the season
