Huskers vent, get fired up in team meeting

As Matt Slauson understood it, Sunday’s meeting was supposed to last about 10 minutes.
It was figured Coach would talk a bit and players would stare embarrassed-like at the ground while Coach talked.

But this meeting was different. Players kept randomly standing up to say something.

Call it Chicken Soup for the Husker Soul.

Voices raised until 45 minutes had passed.

“It was definitely an emotional meeting,” said Slauson, the junior offensive lineman. “It really got a lot of guys juiced up, jazzed up, ready to roll.”

That's nice, but if we throw the ball and 3rd & 2, and are unable to convert, then all the team meetings in the world don't make a lick of difference because the coaches are driving this team into the ground...

I don't know if they are trying to cover up the defensive play calling or cover up for Coz.

Some said it wasn't the defense scheme it was reacting instead of acting, thinking to much. I hope it's the reacting and not acting fast enough part. That can be fixed with just letting their instincts take over.

It sure would be nice to see them just go out on the field and have fun playing football again. I think we can all handle losing if we see the effort in a hard fought game. There was no fight in the USC or Mizzo games and that hurts.

We will beat OSU, but "how" we beat them is what I want to see.

GBR!!! :bonez

As a parent I found that sometimes you can yell, scream, rant and rave, but when kids can figure things out for themselves, they seem to do better. Maybe they have finally realized that they DO HAVE what it takes and just needed to "get emotional". Now, they just need to keep that emotion and build from it! Like our old Tunnel Walk.........."I PLAY FOR NEBRASKA"!!!

They've said this before in the past and rarely came out with guns blazin. If they did, it didn't last long thru the season <_<

Sorry but I'm not buying into this crap until I see proof on the field for more than 2 quarters

"It really got alot of guys juiced up, jazzed up, ready to roll". This is about four weeks late don't you think?

Reading the rest of the article, the players admit they're reacting instead of acting; they're confused; they're over thinking their assignments.

That's all fine and good, but I don't want talking I want it out on the field! If we can get this thing turned around it starts this weekend against OSU. We need to beat them and beat them bad!

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Being fired up doesn't make up for average talent and horrible coaching/game plans. 2008 can't get here fast enough. <_<

Is it just me or is anyone else getting sick and tired of hearing about average talent? Suh bench presses over 500 pounds. When he was recruited, he was a top 50 player. I don't think he's average. Bowman average? Lucky average? We have some players on this team that a lot of other teams wanted. Just because the coaching staff has made these players look and feel average doesn't mean they are average.

2008? We will have either a redshirt frosh or potentially a true frosh starting at QB. How in the world can you honestly believe things will be better? I'm scared as hell about the 2008 season at this juncture of this season!

Evidently Slauson gets to use this new-found intensity and fire on the sideline as he's lost his starting job.

maybe this doesn't have to do with what WE think. Do you maybe think this private meeting was supposed to be between the players and coaches.? It isn't like they paraded in the streets holding hands. I'm getting a little tired of all this stuff. Every time a player or coach has a positive thing to say we drive it into the ground. They know more about the state of the program than we do, and while this is a message board where we are free to state our own opinions, can we please try to get over this "we suck" mentality? I'm not claiming this sunshine pumping will help, but can we at least give the players some respect for stating their own claims. We weren't there, and we don't know what was said.
