Huskers vent, get fired up in team meeting

maybe this doesn't have to do with what WE think. Do you maybe think this private meeting was supposed to be between the players and coaches.? It isn't like they paraded in the streets holding hands. I'm getting a little tired of all this stuff. Every time a player or coach has a positive thing to say we drive it into the ground. They know more about the state of the program than we do, and while this is a message board where we are free to state our own opinions, can we please try to get over this "we suck" mentality? I'm not claiming this sunshine pumping will help, but can we at least give the players some respect for stating their own claims. We weren't there, and we don't know what was said.

Have you ever been told the story about the little boy who cried wolf? We've seen this time and time again only to get our hopes up and then get them crushed on Saturday. I would love to believe this is going to get the season turned around, but I have been duped by this staff too many times before. I'm a show me person now. They have to show me on the field that they have changed!

As Matt Slauson understood it, Sunday’s meeting was supposed to last about 10 minutes.
It was figured Coach would talk a bit and players would stare embarrassed-like at the ground while Coach talked.

But this meeting was different. Players kept randomly standing up to say something.

Call it Chicken Soup for the Husker Soul.

Voices raised until 45 minutes had passed.

“It was definitely an emotional meeting,” said Slauson, the junior offensive lineman. “It really got a lot of guys juiced up, jazzed up, ready to roll.”

Evidently Slauson gets to use this new-found intensity and fire on the sideline as he's lost his starting job.
Yup, so does our best LB in Octavien.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Being fired up doesn't make up for average talent and horrible coaching/game plans. 2008 can't get here fast enough. <_<

Is it just me or is anyone else getting sick and tired of hearing about average talent? Suh bench presses over 500 pounds. When he was recruited, he was a top 50 player. I don't think he's average. Bowman average? Lucky average? We have some players on this team that a lot of other teams wanted. Just because the coaching staff has made these players look and feel average doesn't mean they are average.

2008? We will have either a redshirt frosh or potentially a true frosh starting at QB. How in the world can you honestly believe things will be better? I'm scared as hell about the 2008 season at this juncture of this season!

I agree, I believe we do have the talent here, it's the coaching that is holding us back. And next year I think Witt will be the guy, and I believe he'll do well. I'm more concerned about the running game and linebacker play next season. Of course, getting rid of Coz will go a long way in assuaging those fears.

I think a hard nosed coach that really is very average with the x's and o's could have theis team winning 7-8 games. I think our boys are uninspired, soft and confused by complex (and ineffective)schemes. I think a good coach has this team winning 9-10 games

Watch a SEC team play, then watch NU play.......that's your definition of average talent. Not even on the same planet.....especially speed-wise.

At least in 2008 we'll have a clean slate and all the $hitty attitude will be gone.

I apologize for being a Negative Nancy, but I seriously am tired of this $hit. dedhoarse

I have the same feeling I had when Dailey was stinking it up in 04, it's gonna be a long season husker fans........fired up or not i is gonna be ugly this year and could get uglier next year

pardon me if I don't get excited about them deciding to play.

I'll be excited when I see them come out and thrash a decent team 42-7.

Better get a couple of more horses, get used to it or stop checking message boards...because it's not going to stop anywhere you look, read, or listen.

Trust me, I know. I think 'a few' more horses is an understatement.

"I wish it were 1995 still." dedhoarse

"Solich should still be coach." dedhoarse

"Callahan/Coz should be fired." dedhoarse

"T.O. would turn this program around." dedhoarse

"Blackouts are sweet/suck!" dedhoarse

Just trying to bring a little comedy to this trying time! :rollin :rollin :rollin

Yawn...

I'm with Christian Peter on this one. The fact that you play for NEBRASKA makes this entire conversation of "getting fired up" unbelievable. If your a$$ wasn't burning red hot since January, you've got a problem bigger than the game and you don't belong on this team. Give me 11 medicore 2 stars who play like Blackshirts and I'll taken them, even if they screw up, over 11 superstars who play like zombies and screw up.

X

I'm with ya. Talent doesn't always win. If it did, the New York Yankees would win the World Series each and every year. The men's Olympic basketball team would win the gold each and every Olympics. In team sports, there's a lot more to winning than just talent. Give me 22 players that believe rather than what we have now. I'm not sure anyone believes anymore. Instead of knowing we'll win on Saturday, this team simply hopes. Once they get down, they falter miserably. This team has zero confidence in themselves and it appears in their coaches. The coaches are grasping at straws and keep picking the short one!

It doesn't sit well with me when they have this type of meeting so many weeks into the season. This is the type of stuff they should say and the type of things that should get the fired up all summer long!!!!! Give me a damn break Callahan and Co!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Attitude reflects leadership and if our team wants to start getting focused halfway through the season then we are dang near rock bottom with our program. What did we do leading up to this season? Expect to win every game? We're so unprepared and lost right now its not even funny. Hopefully we don't have to sit through this next year, or at least not as bad. I hope the Basketball team does alright this year because this is a depressing football season.

The week Corey McKeon had his little break down during the press conference I really thought we would see a fired up bunch, but that wasn't the case. Why would this be any different?
