Hypothetical: If NU was Sanduskyd, would you still be a fan?

I saw someone driving today with a very obviously recently removed Penn State sticker on their car. It made me wonder what would have to happen for me to actually stop supporting Nebraska athletics...

Personally, if this had happened to us I would probably hang up my red. I couldn't get behind a program or administration that allowed such things to happen. It would be with an awfully heavy heart though.

hopefully, because of penn. st.'s despicable example, this never happens again. they should have realized the ensuing cover-up would do far more damage to their institution than stopping sandusky at the start. if they would have done the right thing, it would have been a black eye, but penn. st. would be easily forgiven. but now, it is not a black eye, they are in the process of going through a wood chipper.

Pretty much mirrors my feelings. Of course, I would be sick, but doubt if I could continue unless they fired everyone; accepted the death penalty and started fresh in 5 years. Of course, this ignores the question about supporting the other sports. Again, IF they canned the administration, it would probably be palatable.

I wouldnt have even held it against them at all had they taken care of it immediately. That would have been the right thing to do, but just like anything else, cover-up is worse than the crime.

Edit: To answer the original question. I dont know. That's one of them things I just dont want to even consider such a situation.

Makes me wonder why there are still Catholics. Not to condemn the whole religion, but the similar cover ups at such a high level do make me wonder.

And to answer the OP.

It would be very difficult, but we need to separate the actions of individuals from the whole program. There's things that Tom did that I still don't approve of, but I can also recognize a plausable explanation for what went on here,

(Example: Christian Peter)

Yes. I would be.

Penn State made a huge mistake, many many mistakes but at the end of the day, No single person should define a school or what it means. About 5-10 people affiliated with the University knew and allowed this to happen. That does not make it right, but the fans who support this team didnt know and judging the whole school and their fans is wrong.

Those who stood by and did nothing can rot in jail.

I am not a Husker fan because of Bo Pelini or TO or anyone else. I am a husker fan because when i came here as an 18 year old, i was welcomed and stood toe to toe with my classmates and cheered loudly wearing red. I lived the life of a Husker, and that will never be taken away from me.

sure, you would not hold it against them. but it would still be bad press. i think a lot of people would commend them for doing the right thing, but to employ a pederast is never good for anyone. especially when said pederast is revered and respected.

I would remain a fan. But I'd be calling for everyones' heads, for complete removal of everyone in charge, for a fresh start. I would support the players who simply want to work their butts off and play football on Saturdays. And I'd support any victims more than anything. I just don't even want to think about it, really.

Like people have said, less Husker shirts and no more flying the flag around. It would be a sad, sad day.

All this being said, I have faith that Tom Osborne is not the type of person that Paterno, Curley, Schultz, and Spanier were.

Of course I'd still be a Husker fan, Why? Because NU fans are a lot smarter than State Penn fans. While the fans and families are still showing all their support for the monsters that did all this at PSU, That wouldn't happen here. We wouldn't live in denial. I find it interesting that Penn St. supporters are upset about what happened, but are still proud of the program many children were sacrificed for to achieve their program's status.

If it happened here (and it won't) I'd be satisfied attending football games, knowing everyone involved in the assault or cover-up was impaled on a steel post, being picked apart by crows in front of the entire stadium. Leave them there until all that was left was bones. Then throw all the bones into the restroom urinals.

Yes, I have strong feelings about this, and no, our legal system wouldn't allow it. But it would be nice.

Child molesters and the people that protect them do not deserve leniency. The do not deserve a funeral. They do not deserve to breathe air. The minute you touch a kid or protect someone that does is the day all hell needs to be unleashed on you.

Accept the death penalty? why?

If something like this happened it would be solely about the administration and staff that allowed it to. Not the school, not the program.
