Hypothetical: If NU was Sanduskyd, would you still be a fan?

Accept the death penalty? why?

If something like this happened it would be solely about the administration and staff that allowed it to. Not the school, not the program.
The school and program are people. They aren't buildings. They aren't ideas. They're people.

The people in this case, the people who were quite literally the face of the university, chose to protect the football program instead of rape victims.

That's some seriously systemic evil. Purge it.

The students who make up the program and the kids who get scholarships to play football are not a part of this. Get rid of the administration members who let it happen, get rid of the coaching staff and bring in a new one. At that point it's done,to me.

Not possible, Ron Brown would give the hypothetical perpetrator an a$$ whooping of biblical proportions.

Seriously though I don't think so. There is a real pride in being a Nebraska fan that goes well beyond winning. Treating people the right way with respect and doing things the right way not taking short cuts are what I think being a Husker fan really represents. A Sandusky situation would undermine everything I love about the program.

Just imagine if it was Ron Brown who did it. That would be the craziest football event of the century.

The kids on scholarship should be released immediately to whatever school will take them. No transfer restrictions if they choose to leave. If they choose to stay they stay tuition free even though they will not be playing football.

The program that chose to protect its image instead of protecting children should have that choice taken from them. No choice . . . the money earmarked for football goes to the victims. Shutter the program for as long as necessary because really . . . Penn State football is nothing compared to these crimes.

They made their choice and they chose football. Time to take the choice out of their hands.

Will that happen? Nope. Should it? You bet.

That's pretty sick when you start assigning actual names to this 'hypothetical'.

Getting rid of everyone but still supporting the team like you're asking Penn State to do would mean you aren't supporting the same team you thought you were... JoPa and crew WERE Penn State, everything you supported as a Penn State fan is gone, and the what it means to be a Penn State fan will never mean the same, it will never be the same program.

I want all those years back that I sorta idolized JoPa..Back to when I was a Freshman at UNL and my old girlfriend said he looked scary/evil and I tried to "educate" her on what a great person he was..

Admin/Coaches/Players and maybe even fans are like layers of skin..You will have the name DNA, but every few years, you replace all of your cells.

I'd still be a fan if we were "Sanduskyd"..But if we were also Paternoed, Curleyd, Schultzed, and Spanierd..That would be really tough.

Great way to put it.

...and now your sense of hypothetical outrage is getting misdirected at all the wrong people.

Those student-athletes would not deserve to be released from their scholarships.

Child abuse is a terrible, terrible thing. Causing as much damage in as many directions as possible in response is not the answer.

zoogies-

I think you misunderstood my post. The kids should get to keep their free schooling at PSU or be released to another school. Their choice. Not Penn State's.

I thought about posting something similar to this. The question I have is about the culture. We have a somewhat similar culture. We are football centric like PSU and they're saying the cover up is due to their culture. My question is, would we blinded by our culture and cover something like this up, or would we report it too?

Also . . . I don't think that the outrage is hypothetical.

Real rape.

Real children.

Real outrage.

I hope they all go to jail. This is an absolute abomination. And to the OP. I would probably remain a fan, but I wouldn't tell anybody.
