I am confused by WMU comments that abound here

This Kansas fan is making a comparison based on having a very narrow understanding of what he is talking about.

Central Michigan beat Western Michigan last year on a controversial call with 14 seconds left. It was a tough game for us to deal with and still hard to admit they were/are better. So let me tear their 07 team down a little bit. CMU lost 6 games. They lost at home by 30 points to a FCS North Dakota State team. Clemson scored 70 points on them...70, and the didn't even beat a decent team in the MACC. They beat a 6-7 team.

WMU won 3 games in the MAC last year not 2, and 3 games were lost on the last drive 2 on the last play. Tell me if you have ever seen anything like this before:

Point is made well here, however wmsam forgets another HUGE factor in our loss to CMU last year... Star reciever Jamarko Simmons was kicked out of the game in teh first quarter on a controversial call out of bounds... lesson learned.

Another issue with WMU last year as is the case with most non-BCS programs is the constant coach carousel that occurs with assitants. New defensive coordinator last year installed a totally new defense that took the team most of the first half of the season to learn. Once they started to figure it out, they started to shut teams down with it... when your a college athlete and your forced to change a scheme youve been playing for years in one off-season... it takes some time. The new scheme (although again... new d-coordinator for WMU this year) is closely related to last years... so they picked it up quick... its all about trusting your position and those around you... I know when it comes to our win over Iowa... its like big deal to most... however its forgotten that the loss Iowa took... kept them out of a bowl game and it was in their stadium.. and they still couldnt get up enough to beat WMU. Why? Because WMU is NOT as bad of a team as you may think...

Yes... we took some lumps last year... mostly due to our defense struggling with its new system. This is college football... and one thing that IS certain is that you cant be CERTAIN about ANYTHING.

Personally, Ive never been worried about WMU. First game Im worried about is VaTech and I'm not even THAT worried about it.

Just re-read your post and i'm not done...

your out of conference games were:

Central Michigan - like you said, finished 8-6 won the MAC

Southeastern Louisiana - finished 3-8 only beating 2 D2 teams and Nichols State

Toledo - finshed 5-7

FIU - 2007 Season: 1-11 ... do i have to say more?

In conference, while I know the school has no control over:

K-state - A team who has been struggling, but was ranked at the time (24)

Baylor - no explanation needed...

Colorado - See k-state (without the ranked part)

Texas A&M - mediocre year for the aggies, Quality win for KU

Nebraska - A scoring explosion by both sides early, but Nebraska had serious troubles last year

Oklahoma State - Just came off a bad loss to Texas, barely finished above .500

Iowa State - the baylor of the north

Missouri - Need i say more?

I mean come on...

Despite my obvious bitterness, you miss my point. I am saying Central Michigan is mediocre, and everyone else is here calls them weak. OK, well, they are better than Western Michigan regardless. We beat the better Central Michigan 52-7, so if you can compete with us, you should be able to beat Western Michigan. That is my point....

The rest is just my bitter rant. (A&M and OSU on the road not otugh? CU in Boulder not tough? Come on, some credit???)

OK, enough ranting, I want to know how can the Mighty Cornhyskers have a fair contingent of fans afraid of these guys. I am trying to stay on toipic, and that is what I want to know. they have ZERO faith in what is going on. Western Michigan is not good by pretty much any measure.

What is the difference between 2007 and 2008? ITS 2 DIFFERENT YEARS. Oh i guess LSU is going to beat OSU in the championship this year again cuz it happened last year.

WMU returns what? 18 starters? Granted they weren't that great last year, and in no way shape or form am I scared about this game. I am going to say that I have faith in my team, but I think KU is going to need alot more than fan support for what is instore for them in 2008....

I want to know, do people down in Lawrence really think that KU will do better than 8-4? Especially with Oklahoma, Texas, AND Texas Tech on your schedule, plus Mizzou, potential Big East Champion South Florida, and upcoming Colorado? Not to mention KU visits Lincoln, where you haven't won at since god knows when. Actually this just sounds stupid cuz I've mentioned most of the teams on the schedule but alot of people aren't talking about KSU, and I personally am more scared of that game than our game with KU.

Case and point -- KU's schedule is brutal, KU has like 7-8 games that are "TOSSUPS" or "PROBABLE LOSSES"

There is a lot of "Watch out for WMU", BTW, it is pretty common recently. I am just surprised so many people are that concerned.

If you lose to them, you are no better than average. These guys are no App State, the are not some under the radar great team. 18 guys back on a team that won 2 games in the MAC, ok, now they may be able to compete in the mac and take 4 games? I am just surprised so many Cornhusker fans are concerned. I know not all of you are, a few of you still think it is the mid-90's for pete's sakes....

People in Lawrence, when Polled, pick 9 wins as the most popular choice. 8 wins came in second. I think 10 was third, then 7. Since we beat CU last year at CU, and the momentum has shifted with NU (plus a new coach), those are viewed as winnable by more than just KU fans. We beat USF 2 years ago, and so they may beat us this time, but we like our chances. As for the 3 south teams, 2 are at home. You missed Mizzou, which is probably the second hardest game after visiting OU. We probably will lose 3 or 4 games, most fans think that, we just don't llok at that scheudle and assume we lose them all. if we lose half of the 7 games listed ablve, that is 3.5.... 3 or 4.... Again, sorry for not assuming we suck after going 12-1, beating Va-Tech in the Orange Bowl. We have on of the better schedules in the country for difficulty, so we would be hard pressed to go 12-1... :rant

Nevermind, we will see you in Lincoln.... Then it won't matter what any of us think. We will just see how it goes. I am not sure what a bunch of you will come up with next year if we go 9-3, but I am excited to find out...

I know EXACTLY what everyone on this board will come up with when KU goes 9-3 or 10-2. I've found that after each KU win, the team KU beat is suddenly not that good and is looked at by the country as an average to less than average team. Case in point Virginia Tech last year. V-Tech entered the game ranked 3rd in the BCS. After KU beat them, suddenly the excuses from Husker nation and the rest of the public began coming. "Well, you see, Virginia Tech played in a weak ACC." "Well, you have to realize that Virginia Tech wasn't that good." They shouldn't of even been in the top 10 of the BCS going into the game Yada Yada Yada.......

But by god before they played KU in the Orange Bowl their defense was looked at as the second coming of Christ!! They were bigger, stronger, faster, more physical, able to leap tall buildings. All around better than KU and had an argument for being in the NC game. Then KU wins and they become mediocre.

So that's exac tly what we'll here next year from Husker nation and the rest of the country that knows nothing about KU football. When KU goes 2-1 against the South I'll be the first poster on this board to let everyone know about it. Trust in that my Husker friends. KU is a tough out at home and no way Texas and Texas Tech comes into Lawrence and leaves with a win. Not this year boys!!

All year long I said VaTech was overrated, just as I said Kansas was. Kansas wont win more than 8 games this year.

You'll NEVER get you point across about this cause Husker fans won't listen. They just want to continue to bash on KU's shcedule. But look deeper my friends. Check out Ohio State's schedule (before they played LSU). Because of OSU's name recognition (prestige if you will) they get a free pass by husker nation and the rest of the country because they have OSU across their chest. They played NOBODY in their non conference schedule and I would argue that they're schedule was worse that KU's. But nobody wants to talk about that. Because they were THE OHIO STATE University, we'll go ahead and give them a free pass to the National Title Game. That's crap if ya ask me boys. :koolaid2:

I don't get how you can deny that KU had a weak schedule last year. The teams they faced during the season were 63-82! I guess you consider that a schedule with alot of strong teams that just didn't know how to win? Sorry, not buying it. Like I said, if KU has this 10 win season you keep talking about, I will give credit where credit is due. But I just don't see that happening. Sorry.

And how did I give Ohio State a "free pass"? Ohio State sucks. They will get blown out by USC, win the rest of their games, and still make it to the National Championship game after beating a bunch of fluff. The same thing that has happened the last 2 years.

JGS30 who are you getting all these quotes from? Is it possible your projecting some of your pent up frustrations on to us husker fans? I mean you just said KU had an argument for the NC! It could be said Both teams backed into that game last year. But do you honestly think you should have been in over OU? I dought you do.

Relax boys come back down to earth for a bit. And please stop with the idea that NU needs to catch up with KU or MU. We need to get back on track, yes. But if you think we have suddenly become the Duke of the Big 12 your sadly mistaken. And that goes for all the "Show me somethin' first" Husker fans too. :rant
