I blame the offense more than the defense

Not that at all. For God's sake, where does this concept come from?

The Offense has to worry about the Offense. They failed on seven straight possessions. That has NOTHING to do with the Defense.

The Defense gave up 38 unanswered points. That has NOTHING to do with the Offense.

We can say "The Defense is being screwed because the Offense isn't scoring" just as much as we can say "The Offense is losing morale because the Defense can't stop anyone."
Our performance on defense doesn't have everything to do with the offense, but it certainly has something to do with how completely inept the offense was in the third quarter. You can't expect a defense to not be worn out when they get off the field after running high tempo over and over and over.

Look at how we played in the first half, when UCLA was running at the same tempo. We played really, really strong on defense. The offense sustained a 17 play, 92 yard, 6:30 minute touchdown drive. Next UCLA series...3 and out. Next Nebraska series saw us on the field for another 4 minutes.

When our offense stopped staying on the field for a decent amount of time, our defense started getting sloppy. Not on the second UCLA touchdown drive, but on every consecutive drive after that when the offense could not stay on the field.

Football is a team game. The offense has to help the defense and the defense has to help the offense. Today, the defense helped the offense and the offense hardly did anything in the second half to help the defense.

I would have liked to see if Cross could have gotten a few tough first downs when we were up 21-3 with possession of the ball. I get that the coaches love Abdullah, I love Abdullah for what he is, but I have my doubts about him consistently moving the chains like Burkhead did. I think Cross could be that guy if given the opportunity.

We knew the defense would struggle, but they actually played well until the offense had 10 straight 3 and outs.

Our offense was suppose to carry this team, and they played 3 of the worst quarters i've seen in a long time.

We knew coming into the season our offense was going to have to score about 42 points a game.

Martinez is killing the offense by trying to be a pass first QB. Beck isn't helping with the play calls.
Took the words out of my fingers.

Knapp, the point is that we knew the defense was average at best. We knew they couldn't shut down a team like UCLA for most of the game. But the belief was that with a senior QB and experienced offense, they'd be able to execute at a level that helps minimize the defensive exposure. There was a lot not to like on both sides of the ball. One of those things was suspect play calling knowing that the defense had to be protected. I'm still trying to understand the value in consistent dink-dunk passes within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage.

Beck is making the calls...he is still an amateur...the whole teams is high school grade coaches.
Isn't this Beck's 3rd year as an OC?

There is no excuse for coming out in the 2nd half flat. I honestly think our coaches go into a game with 1 gameplan and stick with it, there is not deviation, not even if the opposing team makes adjustments, we don't make adjustments and keep doing the same thing.
