I have a problem with this

Finally, I'll add this... do you think Bo or Carl asks the defense to just "manage" the game? Imagine that, Bo saying, hey guys, just manage it...

If you don't understand the point, I can't help you anymore.
You probably can’t help me because I see nothing wrong with him telling his True Freshman quarterback who is making his 2nd career start against one of the better defenses in the country to go out there and manage the game. You are also crazy if you don’t think that during their meetings and off camera discussions that they aren’t telling Cody Green to go out there and make plays.

What is said to the media is probably not what is being said to the players.

I bet they tell them to do their assignments, play within the system, and go out & win the normal downs (1st and 2nd). I would also bet that Pelini has told Cody Green and Zac Lee for that matter to go out and manage the offense.

ok, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you on this.

I sure as hell wouldn't tell my qb to go manage the offense.

I'd tell him to go win the f'ing game.

I agree to disagree on this one.

I think some of you are reading way too much into this. What should he say "We aren't ever going to have a 3rd down because we are going to score on every play we run" or "There is no way that the defense will be able to handle our offense so we can go out and run whatever we want to because no matter what it is going to work". People wouldn't be blasting him for saying stuff like that either. <_<
How dare the coach talk about winning 1st and 2nd down and making 3rd downs manageable? At least he didn't come out and say "We take what we want" because we all know that was a terrible thing to say as well. :ahhhhhhhh
It's something for people to b!^@h and complain about. Seems to be the new trend on here.

Yes you would. That is what a QB's job is. Do you understand what "managing" the game means?

He is talking about not forcing things and letting the game come to him. You don't want him trying to go downfield 40 yards on every play because then (as was already covered) you open yourself up to blitz packages on 3rd and 10 that will pressure your QB. Pressure causes mistakes by QB (especially true freshman), there is a reason they keep the stat QB Hurries.

What would you rather he say, "I'm just told him that I am going to call a home run pass on every down. We don't think they can stop us no matter what they do," would that be better?

Good God people, are we going to crucify Watson for everything he says? This is getting out of hand.

"What did you have for dinner last night, Shawn?" says Sipple. "I went to Applebee's and got a steak," answers Watson. This is put in the paper and some crazy fan on random message board bitches because he "isn't about the Nebraska way, he didn't eat at Misty's. Fire him and bring somebody in that understands what we stand for in a steakhouse. Turner Gill would eat at Misty's."

This is about how bad this is getting. YOU ARE READING TOO MUCH INTO THIS.

if you think I am reading way too much into this, so be it.

Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

If he would have known that people the world over would use that to end arguments when they can't think of anything to back up their point, he would have never allowed them to print it.

QFT!!!!

Huck Foley, it's not that I don't understand your point, but the terminology is not worth attacking here. Managing an offense is going out there, making plays, and not making mistakes. That is all it means. Maybe you would prefer Watson to come out and say "I told Green to take this offense and kick @$$ with it", but he's not going to say that to the media.

And just as a side note, like I was saying I understand your point in this, but you might want to be a little more receptive to others' opinions on the matter especially if they have a dissenting opinion. Creating a thread about something leaves you susceptible to people with differing opinions. Not every one will agree with you.

Maybe our QB's should study Einstein then. Maybe they wouldn't throw the ball to certain WR's if they read up more on Einstein.

I understand... I just believe I'm right in my gut about this or I wouldn't have created the thread.

It's ok to have different opinions.

I just want the correct message sent to the athletes... I won't post again until after the game Saturday.

I would rather have us lose by 40 points and see us "play to win" than lose by 1-2 points and see the offensive strategy that has been used the last 3 games.

There was a quote from huskers extra from Shawn Watson

"It’s one of those games that it’s important to win on normal downs. We’ve got to do a great job on normal downs and stay in a manageable third-down situation.”

There was also a good thread about "multiple offenses" on the board, a good read if you can get through it.

What I am getting at is, this bs has to go by the wayside.

This is not an NFL team or league.

If I hear "manageable" or "manage" or "multiple" again, I think I'm going to puke.

I believe this is what Jason Peter meant when he said this offensive style breeds softness/weakness.

You go into a game to lay it all out on the field, and you go into it to win.

You do NOT go into games to just "manage" them..

This is the difference in mindset that he was talking about.

You go into games to win them and kick some ***

Maybe I am taking this nuance too far, but hopefully I have made my point.

Huck

I like GO BIG OR GO HOME! I kinda wish watson would've said something like "it's Oklahoma coming into our house. We're going to let it all hang out and go after em!" :)

I think he already explained where he was coming from but you two simply disagree.
