We can't beat Texas but everybody else can. We squeek one out against ISU and Colorado kicks their a$$. My forehead is battered and bruised from my banging it against the wall.

I don't get the UT either, other than we just made it out to be a bigger than life game and we were WAY too tight, from the Head Coach down to the waterboy.

Just a tip, don't scoreboard watch, you simply can't compare game to game anymore. ISU was on the road as well and Boulder is never an easy place to play. Last week we were the only Big 12 team to win on the road and off the top of my head OSU was the only one this week, against a UT squad that has completely packed it in.

I hear ya, this team is something else that is for sure. Last night I watched about one of the most uninspiring games of football. 9-1 though, i can handle that!

We didn't beat Texas because of the way the coaching staff approached, and handled that game. Not that we can't, but we didn't.

They'll never admit it, but Texas was as amped for our match-up as we were. The only difference being that they had no pressure. It was a down year, they were on the road, the underdog, etc. etc. Also, Texas had two weeks to scheme for the game and were coming off two consecutive losses, so they had a motive and opportunity to scrutinize their schemes and make some changes in time for our game. (E.g., Garrett Gilbert running all over the place.)

The coaching staff didnt drop a bunch of freaking passes in that game, stop reading the virgins over at HI who think they are insiders and start thinking about it for real.

lol!

I agree it was just a bizarre day that for some crazy reason our wrs couldn't catch a ball even if covered with super glue. Heck, we catch "half" those passes we're ahead and our run game opens up......oh well.

But to blame the loss on the coaching staff because we dropped passes all game long?? I'm usually the first to jump on SW but even I didn't go down that road.

Just like when we play down to a team, that's on the coaches, when we faced Texas as nervously and tight-wound as we did, that's on the coaches as well.

My point was, it's not that we couldn't beat Texas. But the whole way the game was built up and how we handled it, we weren't ourselves that day and that's why we lost.

I understand it is unthinkable to blame Bo for anything, but he makes mistakes too. We all remember that time in the third/fourth, with us having to burn a timeout because the play was slow to come in, and Bo freaking out and blowing a gasket at Zac instead of saying "Alright, next play, let's go, we got this."

My knock on the coaches is that Watson didn't mix up the offense to more of a power running game. As a general matter, fast defenses necessitate smaller players. They excel at stopping east-west running and spread attacks, but suffer against jumbo packages and straight ahead running. Texas was covering our runs to the edges very, very well. Why not see if they'd be able to handle some downhill running out of the I-formation?

I felt like we were the hunted and not the hunter in that game. Like Texas took two weeks to prepare to stop the zone read and instead of us mooting all that effort by showing them a brand new package, we came out and did exactly what they expected us to do.

There was an interesting comment by Carl Pelini a week or two ago in which he said that the offenses we've played this season have always shown up in difference schemes than what they saw on tape, thereby mooting a lot of the weeks' preparation. You'd think this would have lit a lightbulb over Watson's head, but not so much.

Actually, Watson pulled out all the stops for Texas, and we had them plenty of times (as we saw.) We used a lot of new formations they had never seen on tape, and ran a lot of different routes/route combinations they'd never seen before, because we had never run something like that before. An example of this being the touchdown Burkhead should have had.

I agree that we played like the hunted and not the hunter, but offensively and defensively, I thought the philosophy was solid. I am speaking really only to the mental approach we saw on the field. Too much pressure. A lot of that is unavoidable, I guess, with the magnitude of the game, but I do think the staff could have handled that better.

Zoogs, I wasnt trying to call you out or anything like that, its just that I have seen/read to much of the virgin crap over on HI from those virgin insiders who think that Bo did something "wrong" the week of the UT game and that if TO wasnt his boss he would have been possibly punished or fired.

Look, the team might have been wound up for that UT game but honestly, that all goes out the window once the game starts. They just had a bad game, it happens. The Ducks had one last night, it happens.

Yeah, and I'm not really pointing a finger at Bo as well, because a lot of things went wrong that day. I only intended to say it was a real off day for us in all facets (the dropped passes as a given, I had thought).

Unforunately for us they didn't lose their bad game........... :bang

If you haven't noticed everyone is throwing their best shot at us. Not just because we are leaving for the big 10, but also because we lead the north race.

On top of that we are Nebraska after all and a win over us is always a high note on the year.

The up side too all of that is that our kids have too play their A game every week, and I think Bo and the boy's know this.

When you get two teams going at it like that you get the obvious result, a good game.

And if you look back on the past couple weeks we have had quite a few of those.

hujan;

Oh, "lots" of people have problems with SW's play calling. He's a WCO guy to the core and simply doesn't understand anything to do with a power run game. That's why you so frequently see him throw the ball around (for a 3 & out) when we're in a 3rd & short situation even when it's glaringly obvious the opponent can't stop our run game.

That's also why this is his career....

He's not going to change but for some reason most NU fans just keep throwing out endless excuses for him. Oh well.....we'll just have to hope for the best.
