I played with Crick's iPad yesterday.

I forgot the best thing I saw.

There is a plaque on the wall outside the locker room celebrating Nebraska's walk-ons. Apparently 440 some kids have walked on at Nebraska and made the team. Out of those 440, a full 132 of them went from walk-on to starter. I thought that was incredible. 30% of walk-ons end up starting at Nebraska in some capacity?! Wow!

They also list the All-American walk-ons, and the walk-ons that went on to NFL careers.

Very cool.

Sounds cool, but it seems like there would be more than 440. 2010 roster had 154 guys on it. Would that be 69 walk-ons? (154-85=69) I wonder if there were 440 that earned a letter since about 1980 or so. (About 15/yr)

I wonder if that is the highest successful walk-on rating. Can we say we are the most successful walk-on college football team?

I agree that the 440 seems low. I don't know what the qualifications were.

Anyway, I am glad to see walk-ons get recognition. They are a strength for the Huskers, and help us out considerably. Every year we end up with a couple of starters who started as walk-ons.
