Identity

Five-Star Recruit
I am not for firing coaches all the time. I am not for bashing coaches. I realize that we are in a rebuilding process.

What i dont realize or understand is our offensive IDENTITY. This is what worries me the most about our rebuilding process. Anyone that watched the game Sat. realized that we need more athletes on both sides of the ball. I have no doubt that Pelini will get those athletes here for the Defense. The offense, now that is another matter. I have a hard time understanding how we are going to get really good offensive players to come here when; 1) we have no identity, 2) we rotate RB(if i am a big time RB i would look elsewhere) 3. It is proven that under this system Frosh WR cant and wont play so why shouldnt a WR prospect look elsewhere.

This offensive scheme or lack of scheme scares me to death. Maybe I am wrong but I dont see recruits digging deep for information, i see them seeing the surface of the situation. For Example, a recruit reads that Lucky is the top back in the Big 12. Lucky is one of the top 5 backs in the country ( i realize this may not be true) but the recruits read this and then watch as we split carries 3 ways. As a RB recruit this would scare me off of NU. No back wants to go somewhere where they have to split carries. This is just one example and Lord knows i could be way off base but this is some of the stuff that scares me.

Thoughts

Yeah, the rotating running back thing is absolutely absurd. It's stupid. It's obviously not working but this coaching staff is so thick headed that they don't want to try just one person. I understand the offensive line isn't doing the best job, but Nebraska is not helping matters by rotating running backs like this.

I'll be the contrarian and say I don't mind rotating RBs depending on the situation.

The argument about how that impacts recruiting cuts the other way, too. A recruit may look at a program in which one RB gets all the carries and think it might be hard to break through and get any carries, whereas on a team that distributes carries, that recruit is much more likely to see the field. For a lot of recruits, they're more concerned about whether they'll see the field and how soon than whether they might have to share carries with someone.

First, I don't put a lot of stock in recruiting sites....as apparent of our current list of "athletes". On the other hand, a RB recruit might look at this as his way of coming in and being "that guy" since there evidently isn't one go-to-guy.

If we decide on an identity, then recruit the players that fit it...not what the recruiting sites say. TO never paid much attention to them and Bo has already said that he doesn't.

I agree with most of what you said, but USC has absolutely no problems getting RB recruits and they shuffle their RB's as much or more than we do. Recruits go there because of what they saw with White and Bush. Both got drafted rather high and are making lots and lots of mulla. The thing that will kill us in terms of RB recruiting is if Lucky goes undrafted or very low in the draft.

I know most people here don't like CU and don't like Hawkins, but his rebuilding effort is going to come along a lot faster than ours because he has absolutely zero problems playing redshirt and true freshmen. He's going to have a heck of a team in a year or two because of it.
