I voted Huskers getting blown out. Based off a combo of the sky is falling posts and some stats I’ve read from Fridays game.

i believe I saw somewhere we gave up 5.5 yards per carry on first down- if u would’ve  me  prior to the game this would happen I would’ve said we’d get blown out.

If I saw the two teams' offensive yardage stats, penalty stats, and the fact that we wound up +1 in the turnover margin and nothing else, I probably would have guessed that we won the game something like 30 - 24.

The fact that we threw for 297 yards would have probably led me to believe we had won.

This loss was disappointing because we were undefeated heading into it. It's not bad to discuss lamenting that, is it?

We've taken a big step forward on offense but seems like maybe we took a step backwards on defense this season. Or, maybe Illinois is really good. Going to have to play 2-3 more games to know which it is, I think.

Who would be the right guy?  Who wants to hear nothing but negativity after starting a season with 3 blowout victories?
If the coach is hearing nothing but negative then he is purposely choosing to only listen to the negative stuff.   There is plenty of positive news and commentary the past 4 weeks for him to hear.

Fans are irrational.   Always have been and always will be.  Nebraska fans are very hungry for a winner and I’m sure way too many are flying off the handle with this one loss.   If Rhule didn’t know the pressure cooker of NU football with the fanbase, he shouldn’t have taken the job (and the $8 plus million a year)

It doesn't need to be a pressure cooker.  It wasn't a pressure cooker for Frost, in my view.  He produced 4 losing seasons and was invited back for a 5th.  That's kind of the opposite of a pressure cooker.

Why should it be a pressure cooker now?

I’m not sure what it should or shouldn’t be really matters. It just is what it is.

I don’t sense that Rhule is in any more of a pressure cooker than the majority of big time program coaches. And we all know Frost got more of a pass because of being a former NC QB for us. Doesn’t make it right or wrong, it’s just what it was.

All of the overreacting is simply evidence that some fans are irrational and f#&%ing nuts. I’m sure Rhule knows how to deal with any negativity. He did an interview with Klatt on that very subject and he gets it.

It shouldn’t be a pressure cooker after 1 loss.   I don’t feel like a fan base is turning on Rhule and making his job a hot seat either at this point.

The pressure cooker comment was in reference to a program that doesn’t seem to accept long term losing without a change in leadership.  Fans that think Rhule is toast and we need a change after 1 loss in his second season are being stupid.   Though they also get to voice their opinion as anyone else gets to.  Just disregard that opinion as something worth listening to.

Good way of putting it.   And as I said before, if Rhule doesn’t know how to handle irrational fans on the radio or message boards, then he probably isn’t the right guy longer term anyway.

Rhule specifically said something to the effect of, you are never as good as they say and you are never as bad as they say. He used the example of a stadium full of 60,000 Carolina fans screaming that he should be fired. He understands the nature of his job and has a good head on his shoulders.

I also think a lot of people don’t understand the impact an $8M per year contract has. People don’t bail on that type of payday over a little bit of negativity. In other words, a few crazies aren’t going to scare him off.

And I’m not saying he has earned any negativity at this point. There’s always going to be some extreme voices. Unfortunately it is in our nature to talk about these extreme cases rather than the more sensible majority.

I don't think he's too surprised by the response to the loss.  The report that he's a favorite for the Florida State job came out before the game.

My comment was more about the lack of appreciation for the 3 blowout wins.  I think he was a bit taken aback by that. As any coach would be.  I don't think it's a flaw on his part.  Any coach would prefer to coach for a program where the winning is appreciated, all other things being equal.

Where is all this vitriol that some of you are claiming? Facebook?

Even on this site, I haven't see anything any more irrational after this loss than I've seen after any other loss in recent seasons. I actually feel I've seen worse.

On three separate drives we threw a pass into the end zone that our receiver had both hands on (interception), thew a pass to a RB who caught the ball out of bounds (field goal) and missed an open tight end in the end zone (missed field goal).

Any of those 18 points would have been handy.

If Rhule is expecting appreciation after 3 wins then he isn't the guy for the job. Lucky for us, I highly doubt he gives a crap about our appreciation for the 3 wins. 3 wins means nothing to Matt Rhule who understands all that matters is the next week until we get to the end of the season. Frankly if we lost 9 games straight after 3 blowout wins, who cares that we had them? I think Rhule cares about having a successful season more than getting appreciation for winning 3 winnable games.

Also I'm sure he feels the appreciation when the fans sell out and stay to the end for every single game as he has talked about many times before.
