I hate Michigan more than I hate Ohio State...but I hate Meyer and respect Harbaugh (partly for how he called out Michigan for not doing right by their kids academically - that whole business about him being discouraged from pursuing a degree in history).
A rival is someone whose resume is similar to your own...someone who's right there at the finish line with you... You go back and forth in terms of taking the same honors. There can be animosity between you and your rival but not necessarily. The deal with Iowa just has to do with geographical bragging rights.
