Im nervous going into Washington

All negatives aside, how awesome is it to watch Martinez run that zone read option? That's a thing of beauty. chuckleshuffle

I think our defense did a very solid job. We forced 6 turnovers and had 2 pick6'sm. Their last TD was was againt 2nd and 3rd string D so wouldn't worry much about it. Also our defense held strong after our offense turned over so many times.

Our offense did not look goos especially in the 2nd. Even with over 300 yards rushing, it could have been a lot more if it wasn't for a ton of penaltied and turnovers and just mental mistakes. Taylor Martinez definetly looked like a freshman his share of times today. We need to get those cleaned up a lot before we play in a hostle environment next weekend.

On a positive note he still ended up with accounting for 263 total yards and 2 touchdowns. He had one long run called back because of a penalty also.

It IS a thing of beauty.

As it turns out it may not be enough to just do that one thing very well.

But let's have some patience. His passing might come along. He is a freshman, after all. An excuse that is hard to swallow maybe but that is the reason nonetheless.

zoogies your thinly veiled Lee justification is what it is....but pray tell, just tell me "one" thing Lee does that is a thing of beauty?

I think an away game is a good thing for Ne. I think the home field advantage gets into some of our guys heads to much, where they become hot headed and make stupid mistakes. I think they calm down away from Ne, and come back 3-0 with with a easy win.

I would have rather started Lee going into the season. But now is no time to expect or make a switch. I think he would have performed better. And I base that on his torching of Sun Belt opponents last year, through the air.

I am not asking for our QBs to do anything that is a thing of beauty. I just want them to do be consistent and win games...and dominate weak times like they should.

I am pointing out with the freshman comment that I think the coaches are not putting him in a good position this year by starting him, because he WILL make those freshman mistakes, but this is a year where people will see that and wonder, "But we have 2 guys with more experience." I am just hoping that people will be able to accept the 'He's a freshman' line, because I think they should.

Watching Locker throw his Freshman year was like watching someone throw with his opposite hand. Now he is the projected #1 pick in the NFL draft. Give it time. He is a Freshman.

Here's the deal. Yeah, we looked sloppy, very sloppy at times, but the game was never in doubt. That doesn't mean that sloppiness is good or excusable, but it can be fixed. In recent previous years we had gimme games that weren't really decided until the 4th quarter. We won them, but you let out a big sigh of relief after 60 minutes (remember Ball State?). Sloppiness can be fixed, but lack of talent cannot. We will be the better team going in against Washington. We will be the better team going against most teams. Does that mean we can't be beat? Of course not. But the problem today was mental, not physical. The physical happens in the off-season–we've taken care of that and you can see it. The mental happens during the season. Going back just a few mere years ago, we just didn't have the physical ability to be a team that was set apart. Are we at that point now? I'd like to think we are seeing glimpses of it. There's potential. Should we lose, it won't be due to lack of talent and ability, it will be due to mental breakdowns. We are getting more into the meat of the schedule where we need to be mentally ready. You need to "bring it" no matter who you are facing. Could we simply be out-coached? That could happen as well (but Bo knows the game and has TO as a mentor and so I'm not betting against him), but I liked the game plan today. Bo didn't call on his players to do the spectacular, he called on them to execute. Nebraska football is about execution. If we execute, we should win many games. The talent is there, the team is there, the coach is there. If we just "show up" in any game from this point on, we will be in danger although we could still win. But if we show up and execute each and every game, look out. We're not looking for guys to be in motion, with multiple fakes, and a six step drop back by the quarterback as we wait for things to precisely develop. We're looking for guys to make their block straight ahead, stay on their assignment and get us some yards. We're not looking for a sack every down, we're looking for guys to make the tackle when the ball is right in front of them. We're getting back to Nebraska football. So, I'm going to expect that we'll be the better team going in against Washington. Luck can change anything, but we're no longer at a point where we can just hope (try to get lucky-remember Texas FROM LAST YEAR) to win, we've got some good players and when you come in prepared for a test, usually good results happen. So, yeah I'm nervous because college football allows for just about anything to happen in any given game (just ask Virginia Tech). But by golly gee willikers, I'm pretty dang excited too. Bring it.
