Just got back home from the Cotton Bowl. Sat on the Nebraska side, upper deck about the 30 yard line (South End Zone). Quick game thoughts:
1.) Nebraska definitely had more fans at the game than Auburn, but neither side came close to selling their tickets.
2.) About 10% of the Nebraska side was actually Auburn fans mixed in (don't ask me why they didn't go sit on the Auburn side, good Lord there were plenty of seats).
3.) Had 4 extra tickets next to me on the Nebraska side, sold them for $60 total and they had a face value of $90 each. Felt fortunate to do that!
4.) Auburn's band played the entire game, Nebraska's played sparingly.
5.) Nebraska fans were for the most part very classy (save and except the family from Kearney, NE sitting two rows behind me that had a Mom and a 14 year old son that needed their mouths washed out with soap and were negative about everything (Auburn and Nebraska wise)).
6.) Callahan blew the game with the fake punt reverse call he did in the first half! Nebraska was dominating the first half and that most certainly was NOT the time to do it!
7.) Cotton Bowl has a brand new video/score board that apparently the old geezers that work the game don't know how to operate either! Throughout the game they had the wrong down, wrong yard line, wrong "To Go" amount, even had the 3rd quarter listed on there during the 1st quarter. They were very, very slow in getting the replays up on the board and when they did the camera shots were from field level! Coach Tubberville even looked up at the board during the jump ball Auburn threw in the 3rd quarter and raised his hands above his head as if "WTH are you doing up there"????
8.) Cotton Bowl is a dump, dump, dump! Manned by volunteers at the concessions and they're slow as HELL, many of the seats beneath the deck can't see the new video board so they put in poor quality TV's that are 27 inchers and you're supposed to see them from 50 feet away. Bathrooms are extremely small and concourses even smaller!
9.) Dallas Police Department acts like they've never had a big game at the Cotton Bowl either with their traffic control! Never have seen a bunch of stupider Cops in my entire life! Never!!
10.) Beautiful day and perfect weather!
11.) Nebraska fans are pretty quiet during the game (as compared to UT, OU and A&M fans especially).
12.) Nebraska is one to two years away from being back to an elite program. Pretty solid game playing overall, no super stars on the squad but could be.
13.) GET THE BALL TO MAURICE PURIFY!! My goodness, he had a 5'9" DB on him all game and Purify was manhandling the kid. He (Purify) could be and should be a gold mine for you guys next year!
14.) Good Luck to Nebraska next year. Would love to check out a game in Lincoln in the near future and plan on doing so.
