How is everybody doing in your workouts. I'm more curious with the P90x workout. I've been working as a Correctional Officer for 4+ years and I've gained 40 pounds since working there. All throughout High School and College I weighed at 155 pounds and could never gain any weight until now with my current job.
Does this P90x really work? I just watched a whole 30 minute program on Versus about the P90x workout and was interested in it but didn't know if it really works and whether they were saying it worked just to sell the product. After I got done watching the program I was like "I think HuskerinOkieland made a thread about this" so I hopped on Huskerboard to see if I could find this thread. After reading some of your guys post makes me more of a believer but I want to see if you guys have gotten some positive results within these past months.
It works if you can push yourself. I'm nearing the end of the third month here and plan on continuing it for another round (probably after I get back from my vacation in July).
It also depends on what kind of body you have. P90X won't bulk you up...it's more for losing weight (body fat %) and toning you up. For me, I was around 185lb when I started and quickly dropped down to 170ish (I have a fast metabolism though). I'd like to lose a little more fat around the gut area, but I definitely feel more toned. I probably won't achieve the bulky, bodybuilder look purely because I'm just a skinny guy naturally.
Another problem was also the diet. I stuck with it for the first month, but quit following it after that. I got tired of counting calories. I just decided to eat healthier in general. Whole grain breads, veggies, fruits, protein shakes, egg whites, chicken, turkey, etc. Still, I would cheat every once and awhile especially on the weekends when I'd drink.
If you've got the motivation to stick with it...I definitely think you'll see results. I play on a men's indoor soccer league and since I've been using the P90X program I've definitely seen a difference in my game play. The plyometrics/cardio workouts have helped me tremendously.
The only problem with these workouts is that they're so hard on your body. Especially the joints for you older folk

The healthy way to lose weight is 2-3 pounds per week, don't these workouts have you lose like a pound a day?
If you've got sore joints/bones they give you alternate ways to workout. Instead of just saying "oh, I can't do this exercise...it's too hard" they teach you to modify it so that you CAN do it. The guy leading it all is 40+ years old and he's even got a guy with one leg doing the exercises with them! Makes me feel like a wuss when I try and come up with excuses on why I can't do it.
I wouldn't say you're losing a ton of weight per week. I lost 15lbs fast, but I've always been like that when I change my diet around. You're burning about 600-800 calories per day...so as long as you're consuming enough good calories to keep your body functioning, you'll be fine. In fact, the hardest thing about the diet is they want you to eat MORE calories than you're used to. I was having trouble getting used to eating 5 meals a day with about 600 calories per meal. The diet is NOT a crash diet. They've set carb/fat/protein ratio limits each day for you that changes with each phase.
They also try and teach you to ignore the scale. Body weight is different than body fat. And when you concentrate on lowering your body fat % you start ignoring the numbers on a scale that just tend to frustrate you anyway.
