I just caught Lane Grindle's excellent "Sports Nightly" interview with Nebraska defensive backs coach Marvin Sanders.
I was driving home as I listened, so I'll have to paraphrase. But it was very interesting to hear Sanders say that if he were starting a defense from scratch, and had his pick of players, he'd select Eric Hagg first.
Not Prince Amukamara. Not Jared Crick.
Sanders praised Hagg's athleticism and versatility, saying the 6-foot-2 , 210-pound senior can play cornerback, safety, nickel or linebacker. NU's "peso" defense will allow Hagg to remain on the field on every down.
Amukamara and Crick are receiving a lot of preseason hyperbole -- well-deserved, for sure. Meantime, Hagg seems to fly under the radar, though not in Sanders' eyes.
