Interesting fact.

Scratchtown

All-Conference
I posted this on the Oregon board just a minute ago. I picked 1994 because after this season that would give a nice even 20 seasons. Just a conversation starter. Nebraska isn't in as bad a state as some of us may have thought. Granted, 4 years out of 5 in that 60-3 run are included but still. 100+ programs that wish they could be on this list.

From 1994 to present day. Including this season. Here are the top 15 programs with the least amount of losses

1.) Ohio State - 50

2.) Florida - 58

3.) Florida State - 61

4.) Texas - 63

5.) Virginia Tech - 64

6.) Oregon - 66

t7.) Nebraska - 69

t7.) USC - 69

9.) LSU - 70

10.) Oklahoma - 71

11.) Georgia - 72

t11.) Miami - 72

13.) Alabama - 74

14.) Michigan - 75

15.) Penn State - 77

I kind of went off the top of my head to figure this out, I don't think I was missing anyone. I did check Auburn, Tennessee, and Clemson out...None would have cracked the top 15. If there is a school you think I forgot feel free to check it. Discuss...

Any number you pick is going to be arbitrary. You've basically picked 19.5 years, but you could have chosen 50, or 25, or 17 or any number. Since not all programs started playing football at the same time it's difficult to establish a good starting/stopping point.

How does the list look for "most amount of wins?" This would take into account teams that don't have conference championship games to battle through or have had sanctions.

I'm shocked to see Va Tech up there.

Also, I'd like to see the list from 1980 to 2000. Bet we'd be #1 by a long shot. We had 36 losses during that 20 year stretch.

I believe if you look at Devaney, TO and Bo years, our winning percentage is .810. If you apply that to the years of 2004-2007 we get rid of 9.31 of those losses. That would move us up to 3rd on the list.

Sorry.....I'm drawn to stats that prove how pathetic Clownahan was as a head coach and Peddey was as an AD.

It's amazing how just a few years with a bad coach can make a difference.

FSU might actually be #1, I believe they lost fewer games than us during an 11 year run somewhere in there.

I'd be more interested in seeing the losses since the introduction of the BCS, 20 years is a pretty long time frame in reality.

Yeah, that 13 years of Top-4 final rankings era of theirs (Which I still think is the most impressive CFB stat of all time) was right in the middle of that era

1994-2001: 0+0+2+0+4+1+2+2 (11 losses, 8 seasons - 1.38 )

2002-2007: 7+3+6+4+5+7 (32 losses, 7 seasons - 4.57)

2008-2013: 4+4+4+4+4+2 (22 losses so far, 6 seasons - 3.67 if we win out)

Total: 65 (3.25 average) (this number's different from what you have)

Average of the top 15 over 20 seasons (assuming win out) - 3.37

Numbers are always interesting and it's clear that programs have peaks and troughs. A lot of the programs on that list were pretty bad for stretches and are riding on current success. It's pretty clear that Nebraska's spot on the list is owing to an extremely above average first 8 years. We're over a decade removed from that one currently and under Bo, so far, we're a very stable 4-loss team. Which also means a 9-10 win team -- which fits with our current status as a perennial borderline Top 25 finisher.

I understand that almost any time period you pick has a degree of arbitrariness, but with these numbers we're clearly resting on past laurels.
