Interesting piece of Callahan history

Five-Star Recruit
Right off the bat, let's get 2 things straight:

1. Yes, I am an alum of the University of Colorado.

2. No, I'm not here solely for the purpose of bothering you Husker folks, nor am I going to pepper your boards with an army of posts that start and end with "AHAHAHAHA" and are written entirely in caps lock.

Now that we've gotten those two points clear, one of my fellow Buffaloes on netbuffs.com (username Euclid, to give credit where credit is due) has done some digging around in the archives of the Chicago Tribune and found a pretty interesting tidbit on Bill Callahan's past. Maybe some of you folks were aware of this info, but I certainly wasn't, so I thought I'd pass it on... enjoy, or don't enjoy... really, just do whatever you want with this:

“According to the 11/12/1993 Chicago Tribune, the Big Ten Conference has "taken action" against a Wisconsin Badger coach who was caught snooping in an Illinois private booth at the Illinois-Purdue game played in West Lafayette on 10/2.

Bill Callahan, the Badger's offensive line coach, was sent by Wisconsin to scout the game since they had the week off. Callahan was sitting in the open press box during the game. The Illini had a private booth on the same level where they had their game plans, playbooks, communication equipment for talking to the on-field coaches, etc. After the game, the Illini coaches left the booth to go to the locker room. Callahan was discovered rummaging through the Illini material by a student manager who walked into the booth and asked him to leave. This does not directly violate any NCAA rules other than being highly unethical. Neither the Illini nor the Badgers had any comment.”

So that's it. I'm sure I'll see a few of you in November, but until then do your best to knock off the Jayhawks when you get the chance... the city of Boulder would certainly appreciate it (of course, somehow I doubt you guys are too interested in doing favors for the city of Boulder... oh well, it was worth a shot).

personally, i don't need dirt on cally to expel his a$$. he sucks as a head coach, period!

WOW!!!! I had no clue about that..............if that's true that's highly unethical! Welcome to the board by the way. :thumbs

Wow. He may have been caught snooping at some stuff he shouldn't have 15 years ago while he was a low-ranking assistant....maybe-- if the brother of someone's girlfriend's cousin has it right.

Low-ranking coach?? He wuz the coach of the freaking offensive line. If this really happened, do we really want someone of this kind of low character coaching at Nebraska?

is this going to help get him fired if it is than I'm for it other than that it kind of speaks for the sleazy used car salesman like scum we all already know that he is

Wow, if any of that is true then all I have to say is what a cowardly piece of sh#t
you are telling me that if you were a coach at NU and were sent to Kansas to scout Colorado and you were in a booth next to the Colorado coaches, you wouldnt go into that booth if the dumb asses left it open with their game plans in it?

they should have taken the stuff out of there before they went to the locker room.

by the way, if you google Chicago tribune and go to the archives there were 2 articles about it published on the 12th of Nov.

This is very old old old news. Heard it the first year he got here.

A young devoted assistant coach, trying to work his way up the ladder. A lot of people would have done the same thing. Not right, but no big deal. It is common in every single business out there.

It just shows him for the Big 10 scumbag that he is. do u honestly think osbourne wouldve put up with something like this out of his coaching staff?

Yes. Information obtained is information obtained. He would not question how it was gotten. I do recall a certain weapon being hidden, but of course all we can remember are the great stories at a time like this.

This means nothing. Was it a mistake, sure, but he was assigned to get information on the two programs, he did what he was asked to do.

Yes, but Osbourne would've never told his assistants to go snoop around another team's private booth. The fact that Callahan takes orders from Big 10 scumbag shows that he is Big 10 scumbag
