Iowa - What Did We Learn?

I know some fans are like "but the money!" but honestly, that is not a concern, the only concern is having a good FB team.  And NU is getting really close to become a typical lame a$$ Big Ten team.  That can't happen.

A) You are living in a fantasy world if you don't think a $50M buyout this year or a $40M buyout next year would be hinderances to firing Rhule (especially in the NIL environment).

2) News flash:  We have been a "typical lame a$$ Big Ten team" for about 14 years.

I would have no problem with an entire new staff.

Same.  I don't see any upside to Rhule over Frost in year 2...None.

I do think money is a huge issue.  We are still paying Frost IIRC.

Prime brought his Luis Vuitton and it shows....Rhule brought his short sleeved hoodies and it shows....He will return, but I hope he is a short leash and more of a CEO roll.  Do some pressers, kiss some babies, shake some hands, but let a new staff run the recruiting, schemes, portal etc....And for pete's sake stop the videos and pre season hype.  Stop the single digit jersey hype.  You want to keep it? Great, just don't make it the pre-season hype.

Dylan Raiola on throws 20+ yards downfield (2024):

18/51, 35.3%, 557 yards, 11.3 ypa, 2 TDs, 4 INTs

Heinrich Haarberg on throws 20+ yards downfield (2023):

7/30, 23.3%, 281 yards, 9.4 ypa, 2 TDs, 4 INTs

Why would it be a hindrance?  What would it stop NU from accomplishing?

Like, NU won't be able to afford new helmets?

That money is going to be raised by the AD from boosters.

For years this has been true. Just keep the game close into the 4th and NU will beat themselves....Stats prove this.  I think Frost and Rhule are 7-32 in one score games....

Then who is going to pay the players?  (And yes, I know $20M is going to come from NU next year, but 1890 will still run on top of that.)

Or who is going to donate the $100M or whatever for all the stadium upgrades?

Spending other people's money is easy.

Rhule has fielded the worst offensive unit in program history (2023) and now the worst special teams unit in program history (2024).

he showed urgency and a recognition he doesn’t have the right guys around him with the Dana hire late in the season.  I think it’s fair to say that close to 50% of the remaining staff should be seriously reevaluated and either completely replaced or demoted

I agree. We are fans. It is not our job to find the funds or manage the money. Not our problem. The university can figure out how to give us a quality product worth showing up for.

Agreed, the single digit bs needs to be kicked to the curb.  Zero point in recognizing team leaders when all we’ve seen is a losing performance.

to the other posters wanting to tear s#!t down, let’s at least wait to see what happens with Dana.  To expect him to turn s#!t water into wine, by himself, with none of his own staff and players within a month mid season is just unrealistic. If we retain him, the majority of this offensive staff and supporting analysts will look very different.  He will also have an opportunity to get skill guys that better fits his system.  We saw again tonight raiola was hesitant to just hit the safety valve hb flat pass like he did against wiscy, and it cost us. A full off-season for Dana to work with him should pay dividends and help undo the complete disservice shatterfield inflicted on us this whole season.

our special teams cannot play any worse than they did tonight.  We need to pay for a punter and, I never thought I’d say this, but a f’n long snapper too.  There are teams that go a full season without snapping on kicking opps being an issue, we can barely go 2 games without it f#&%ing us over.  A change in staff should be a foregone conclusion.

today f#&%ing sucked, one of the most “winnable” games we choked away for sure.  But let’s also not forget we put too much on the shoulders of a true freshman qb for most of the year and it did this team and the fans base a complete disservice.  Rhule has seen firsthand how he f#&%ed up with satt and the quick dividends that Dana delivered, he now needs to be equally as ruthless to address special teams.

it’s also worth mentioning that whoever is leading our transfer portal decision and recruitment deserves to be reevaluated.  Simms completely sank year 1.  Our receivers were a complete dud in year 2. Rhule simply cannot afford to f’n whiff a 3rd year getting guys who can contribute immediately

Well put.  Pretty much agree with everything.

It’s quite annoying to see people who really have no clue, trash DR so much.   He’s a true freshmen who played under a trash Satt system.  Ruhle needs to take ownership with how he handled DR who should have been able to sit and watch for a season, or get some snaps each game for experience while a competent senior transfer was brought in as the main starter (at least as long as he played well enough to be one).

The special teams issues were so glaring and comical and it makes me wonder how MR didn’t have that as a priority when taking the NU knowing how many seasons of bowl eligibility special teams cost NU prior to Ruhle getting hired.  That seems like it’s one of the easier things to fix.

I also would have liked to have the transfer WR get saddled with a little accountability and lose their playing time mid way through the year after all the drops and penalties.   Give someone else a shot and let the starters know that s#!t won’t fly here anymore.  Don’t care how much NIL they got.   I’m pretty sure Lloyd coulda done just as good as those two.
